Commercial Description:
Effervescent, this summer brew is fashioned after the Kolsch biers that originated in Cologne, Germany, in the 1800s. Hallertau, Magnum, and Mount Hood hops combine for an especially clean, crisp finish.

Aroma of mild hops. Yellow crystal clear body and white head didn’t last long. Not much to the flavor just above too waterdown. Decent beer cold ifyou just need a crisp palate cleanser.

Light golden color with the light malty aroma of a lager. Light malt flavor, clean with light esters. Not very bitter. Worth a try.

crystal clear golden yellow with a white head. I poured this into my snifter, set it down and within 10 seconds the head was completely gone. no trace of foam, no lace, nothing! commercial description says the flavor is clean and crisp, that’s because there is almost no flavor to begin with, next

Thanks to JL for this one. Has a moderate sweet taste to it. Neutral fruitiness and sugary corny maltiness. Very light hops presence and a bit of carbonic bitter. Dull golden clear with foamy white soda pop head - gone immediately. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Light carbonic burn. Starts dull with mild malt sweetness and no bitterness at all. Very little hops anywhere. Finish is dull corny sweet with very little hops note. Not clean and crisp and not refreshing. In fact, Kölners everywhere should be offended that Shiner claims this as a Kölsch.

I must admit, I do not like the kolsch beers. I thought that maybe Shiner would make an exception, but alas, I was wrong. I thought it was lacking of flavor and had no palattal substance. I will stop buying these kinds of beers and stick to the kinds that are more like eating a loaf of bread. My assessment is probably not fair, due to the fact that I am biased against these thin beers.

Bright yellow with a white head and a good amount of carbonation. Slightly sweet, aroma of grain and fruit. Flavor is comprised of a slight malty dryness and a decent hop bitterness. Not a very complex beer by any means but not bad for a summer beer.

Pretty golden color with minimal white head that diminishes quickly. Slight sweet dough initial nose with some floral hop notes. On tasting it was much more bitter than I expected. I think the large ammpunt of hops overpowered such a light bodied beer. Maybe the Magnum hops were too aggressive as far as alpha acids were concerned...but hey, I’m no expert. While I’m not a huge fan, I do appreciate that they attempted such a relatively unknown style.

I liked this beer, but then again I’m unfamiliar with the style. The flavor is crisp and a bit bitter, reminding me of a light pale ale, of all things. The beer goes down easy, with a crisp finish. Unlike other reviews, I didn’t find the brew to be overly sweet -- it seemed nicely balanced between malty sweetness, lemony sourness, and hopppy bitterness.
