Commercial Description:
Effervescent, this summer brew is fashioned after the Kolsch biers that originated in Cologne, Germany, in the 1800s. Hallertau, Magnum, and Mount Hood hops combine for an especially clean, crisp finish.

Pours yellowish gold with an inch of foam that quickly dissipates. Smells of oranges, yogurt, and chewable vitamins. Taste is initially bitter. I can pick up a hint of ogange and some off pine like tastes. Finishes with a nice tingle from the bubbles as I like kolsch. Not the best example of the style, but drinkable.

Very clear, golden, and bubbly. Sweet, malty aroma with some citrus in the background. Taste is sweet as well, but has a nice hop finish. Nice and drinkable, but pretty boring.

As clear as bottled water with a bright yellow hue; thin, patchy head. Bold carbonation. Sticky-sweet malts (honey, sweet bread dough). A little too malty-sweet, come to think of it. Flowery hops offer up a decent amount of bitterness to boot. Didn’t seem to have any fruity esters, which I enjoy in a good kolsch. Drinkable, but kind of odd.

The bottle poured a clear, golden beer with a small, rocky head that dissipated quickly leaving almost no head and literally no lacing. The aroma revealed delicate malt sweetness with a hint of fruit in the background. There was almost no hop aroma. The body was light with medium carbonation and a smooth texture. The flavor starts off with a hint of sour lemon. As it matures on the palate, it rounds out with some delicate hop sweetness. The finish is clean, dry and just slightly sweet.

Pour is indeed light orange with a thin white head, looked sort of lifeless...smell is sort of grassy, but tons of bread and malt in there...not too horrid in the flavor department...very malty with a strong bitter finish...something tastes like rotten vegetables though...nice try Shiner...

bottle-ya know, this wasnt that bad of a beer if you ask me. true to style for such a mass produced beer. pours a light orange hue with a small sudsy white head. german hop aroma with some grainy cereal quallities, like wheat chex. the flavors show the chex quality quite a bit especially in the finish-lingering notes of spicy hops. really not bad and authentic.

I’m a Texan but I’m still not too fond of Shiner beers. I didn’t know what to make of this one, especially considering the previous ratings. I bought one bottle of this to try, and upon opening it, the smell is not bad, above average. It’s grassy, a bit hoppy, but not skunky. I hate skunky beer! Pouring it, it’s very bubbly and fizzy but the bubbles disappear like warm diet Pepsi. The color is quite pale, very much like a beer I enjoy, Full Sail Pale. Should it be? Well, the taste is similar too...a little grapefruity/hoppy, but not enough for this style. The body is pretty thin, but a heavier and lingering than FSP. It finishes reasonably clean. It has a decent warming feeling too, which lingers. Overall, I like it but no enough to really say I’ll buy it again. It’s like FSP, only slightly more malty, and I don’t know much about Kolsch style but somehow I don’t think that’s right. I do like it better than other Shiner beers, though. That I can say for sure!

Bottle: Translucent yellow, very minimal white head that fades quickly leaving virtually nothing, spotty lacing at best, mild carbonation.   Very grassy aroma, not so much malty.   Sweet grass on the tongue, faint malt presense.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly moderate.   Grassy finish, not as clean as I would have liked.   A bit of lingering graininess that detracts.   Meh, not bad but certainly not one of the better examples I have had.
