Commercial Description:
Effervescent, this summer brew is fashioned after the Kolsch biers that originated in Cologne, Germany, in the 1800s. Hallertau, Magnum, and Mount Hood hops combine for an especially clean, crisp finish.

To suck any lasting taste out of this it needs to drank straight from the bottle, room temp.

Let me translate from the Texan -" Kolsch" is a word used here to describe a beer that has had every attempt made to rob it of any character whatsoever. In that respect this beer is a triumph.

Bottle. Thin yellow body with a lasting thin foamy head. Nose is cardboard/lotion. Taste-medium sweetness, cardboard, cereal, corn, and hop bitterness. If clean and crisp was what they were going for, they acheived it! Very clean in the sense that it is not full of distractions. Not bad, but not my cup of tea. I guess a good way to put it is this: if you know someone who wants to drink beer but does not like the taste of "beer", then this is it. It is beer without all that pesky flavor getting in the way. This is a very nice "light" "refreshing" beer. It is very drinkable albeit very bland and devoid of inspiration.

Bottle. Minimal head on a straw body. Nose is almost nonexistant. Taste is just plain standard. A little hops, a little citrus. No big whoop.

Bottle poured golden yellow with small white head and almost no lacing. Aroma is wheat and grass and very light aroma of hops. Flavor is clean and crisp, honey and a light sweet clean finish.

Found this today in Cary, NC. Gold pour with medium, white head. Aroma of solid hops backed up with some wheat and citrus. Tasted fruity and with some honey at fore-palate, which gave way to apricots and hopcit at mid and late palate. Smooth, clean finish. A nice summer offering.

Thanks to beer handy for this. Light canary colored with medium white head. Aroma of hopcit, some honey. Tastes malty, with hopcit. Fairly bold and firm for a gold ale.

Bottle. Shared a six last night thinking it was a new offering from the folks at Spoetzel. Just their cleverly repackaged Summer Stock. New package is two-tone green with Kolsch boldly printed and the familiar Horny toad gracing the label with a more prehistoric and menacing pose. Oh yeah, the beer. Unremarkable really. Crisp, slightly bitter, slightly hoppy, clean finish. Not bad for a hot Texas afternoon swill.

Crisp, yet not wthout some heft and just enough sweetness to balance it all out ... perfect summer quaffing.

It calls itself a koltsch, and if thats german for less than pleasing, i must agree. It certainly reminds me of other summer beers, esp. the Goose Island summer, but with a much greater degree of rankness.
