Commercial Description:
“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

Pours amber with a fast receding head like a cowardly mutt in my neighbors back yard that barks until you approach it and it runs off. Not much of an aroma just some malt action. Medium nectar with superb carbonation. Big malty flavors protrude like the bulging bottom of a defected Wexford can. Sweet malty essence with mild bittering. A very flavorful lager reminds me of a light marzen. Not a bad beer at all.

Hop-Jacked? They most certainly have been jacked of all their hops by the taste of this crap! Pours a clean copper color with a small head that quickly disappeared before my eyes.Taste is mild. Light in every way,and the hops they promised are missing. Another example of Shiner making Tx look bad! Even for a lager this is weak...

Sort of a copper color with a decent beige colored head. The smell is a weird malty smell, grains, floral, and maybe some caramel. The taste is sweet, malts, and grass. Weak and boring.

Purchased in a Shiner variety 12-pack. Gold with a very slight haze. Small white head is mostly and quickly diminishing. Light malt nose with a little fresh straw, very faint. Light vanilla cookie malt flavor, turning to copper pennies and grass. SUPER carbonated, yowza. Bland, rather inoffensive lager.

WARNING: This brew is in a 6 pack under the guise of "Shiner Family Reunion". After passing it up for almost 2 months at several liquor stores in the Austin area, I finally found one bottle in the pack is was supposed to be- at an HEB no less- while the other ones I passed at other places had an extra Shiner Light or Blonde in it’s place. Who’s replacing it- retailers or beerpagners? You be the judge... 12 oz. bottle poured in shaker- poured light copper, high carbonation, no head at all. Aroma of malt and dust in the wind. Hits the mouth with a low-medium body, malt is there but is fairly light, holds up in the middle, finish has a small amount of hops. Nice for the style.

what an absolute insult to Kosmos, but seeing as the Spoetzl family yet this get out to the public, fuck ’em.. Please Lord, if you are there, please strike down Spoetzl brewery into dust, and forever blank the worlds mind of this crap they call beer, from Bock to Leight to this garbage.. words aren’t enough, pure shit .. . pours a tawny tan, with almost no head after a minute .. . ever smelled a metal malt extract can that expired in 1994, then you know what this smells off.. . does have a decent mouth, as in it doesn’t linger too long, but horribly muddled with an odd metallic backbone bitterness, and a wrong expired maple syrup flavour, maybe some moldy hops ..maybe...

.. pretty much offensive to all my senses...

Part of the Shiner Family Reunion- orangeish golden colour with a small frothy white head. Aroma is definately on the malty side with carmel notes. Flavours of corn, caramel and soft hops. A pretty decent lager all around.

Sampled on 4/20/2009. This premium lager pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head, with no retention or lacing. Aroma is caramel malts, some grain and something vegetal. A medium bodied lager. The malts are cereal and grainy, somewhat sweet. The hops are floral. Kind of flat and watery. Add some weird cardboard, vegetal tastes and this beer is just plain bad. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
