Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2009 Very soft smoke flavor, much less than I would have liked, although in the early going it was discernibly mesquite-y. Standard Shiner composition in all other respects. Drinkable and at least a bit more interesting than regular Shiner, though that isn’t saying much. Bottle. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 31, 2009 Bottle. Has the aroma of a sasuage meat market. Save the jokes guys. Gold body with dirty white head. Some smoke meats in flavor but also present is a milk/metalilic tank from the dairy days back in Wico. Alright but where is the hickory not is this bottle. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Oct 23, 2009 12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with blutt59. Pours a slightly hazed brilliant gold with a moderate white head that lasted through the first two sips and left scant lace. Mild smoky aroma along with a bit of malt. The flavor is a combination of malt and smoke that I found suited me just fine. The malt is a bit on the sweet side, while the smoke is mild leaning more towards the wood fire variety as opposed to smoked meat. A bit light bodied, otherwise no complaints. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Oct 22, 2009 Clear light amber with a fleeting head. Decent smoked meat and cheesesteak aromas. Lightly sweet pale malt flavor with mild fried eggs n’ hash brown. Not real smoky, more like greasy spoon breakfast food. dmac (1420), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Oct 21, 2009 12 oz bottle shared at Moosetoberfest. Poured a clear golden body with a small foamy white head. Aroma became better with warming and eventually took on a nice smokey syrupy mesquite quality. Flavor was smoke, grains and seltzer. Thinner body with very lively carbonation and a watery finish. Not bad but this one cant be drunk to cold or all the smoke is hidden. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Oct 17, 2009 9/27/2009: Shiner Smokehaus... Aroma: Roasted/caramelized sweet corn. Appearance: Deep gold color; transparent; beige crown. Flavor: Sweet and yeasty in the front followed by a dry, watery corn finish. Palate: Medium-light body. Overall: Good palate cleanser and that’s about it...
12 fl. oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #115 for this beer.
IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Oct 14, 2009 Another gift, from a native Texan that raved on and on about this beer. A clear medium gold, I somehow was expecting a bit more color, large white head. Light smokey, ham scent that carries into the flavor. I’m not a huge Rauch fan, probably due to beers like this. marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 13, 2009 This clear golden beer poured with a massive off-white head and a mequite aroma. There is a thin caramel malt flavor and a fair amount of smoke. It probably goes well with barbequed meat, but does not stand on its own very well.
