Bottle thanks to 17thfloor. Clear golden pour with thinnish white head. Light aroma, very mild smoke, mild grain. Mild smokey flavor, sweet and mildly grainy, slight chemical/rubberry flavor. medium body, nice carbonation... aftertaste is somewhat unpleasant.

Bottle thanks to 17thfloor. Clear golden color with small, creamy white head. Aroma is grainy with a hint of smoke as it warms as well as a slight sweetness. Flavor is a blend of smoke and grain mixed together with a little bit of sweetness again. Medium to light body with light carbonation. Not too bad, sessionable.

12oz bottle 7.15.09. I assume this is the same base beer as the 99 Helles just smoked. Pours a clear glowing golden with a nice fine foamy white head. Aroma is sweet cereal, not really any smoke, a little soapy. First taste is tangy mesquite, which disappears with each following sip, sweet cereal, light grass, medium smokey finish, ending refreshingly dry and clean. Nice body, medium, clean, very crisp, great medium sharp carbonation. Too many haters.

12 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a crystal clear golden color with a one finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is very light smoke and herbal hops. Flavor is lightly sweetened grain, a touch of smoke, and light herbal hops. Light to medium body. Not bad. Could use a touch more smoke for my liking.

Pours a touch darker than your average macro lager, a dark golden. Slight smokey aroma with cereal notes. Clean tasting with a slight bitter hops and smokey aftertaste. Overall, it’s not bad... easy drinking, it cries out for good BBQ.

Pours clear straw golden with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet, corny, not getting much smoke. Flavor is a little sweet corn, very light smoke, and a little grass.

The aroma really captured my interest. It smelled very woodsy, like a day at a BBQ. Drank it out of the bottle. Good gold color, doesn’t look artificial, thin head. Aroma opens up in the glass. I didn’t think that I would like anything they called "Smoked," but it wasn’t a heavy flavor. It was over a hundred degrees out, so it was refreshing. I got a little sweet, smoked wood, a little grass. Reminded me of the BBQ at this little convenience store in OKC called "Circle J’s." 24 hour BBQ. The BEST. Cobbler, ribs, brisket, corn, beans, hot link, polish dog, and white bread covered in AWESOME sauce. THAT’s what I taste in this Shiner Smokehaus. It has a great beat and I can dance to it.

This was recommended to me by a co-worker, and based on my overall experience with Shiner brews I didn’t know what to expect. The aroma is slightly sweet, with smoky, woody and grassy undertones. This is what I imagine smoked cornflakes would smell like, though not a very strong degree of smoke. The color is perfectly clear gold, with hardly any head. The taste seems to vary a lot (like many beers do) depending on whether it was straight from the bottle or poured into a glass. For purposes of this rating, it’s in a glass. It is mildly sweet, with lingering tastes of corn, mesquite ash, and malt. The other thing noticeable about the taste is a moderate bitterness which does not go away easily. In fact, it’s a bitter-sweet finish, no pun intended. Very thin body, but expected that. Overall, not a bad hot weather beer, but really it’s just another average-to-slightly-above average Shiner product.
