Commercial Description:
Enjoy Shiner’s Smokin’ Sommer Bier! Brewed with pale malt that’s been smoked with native mesquite in the backyard of our little brewery in Shiner, Texas (pop. 2,070), this refreshing Helles-style beer has a smoky flavor that goes great with all the flavors of summer. ABV: 4.89% IBU: 16

Reviewed 7/11/2009 (bottle): Pours a clear lager like color body, with a big white head, active and quickly diminishing. Very Clear yellow body, with very active bubbling. Lager-like vegetably aroma, some smokiness present. Not much smoke aroma. Vegatably taste, very smoky aftertaste. Some smoke in the taste, but not very sweet like I was expecting from the mesquite. Almost ashy, but not quite. Somewhat refreshing, goes okay with grilled steak. Some vegetably taste, but it’s mostly covered by the smokiness.

Golden brew, gold head, corn and ash nose. Feel is nicer and more substantial than expected. Flavor is not a lot of anything. One could dig deep and analyze finding corn, malt, and smoke but they are faint. a less than exciting beer.

Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours clear gold with a white head. Nose is pale, smoked-lager: corn, slight light malt, and some band-aid/ campfire nut in the back there is some malt sweetness. Flavor is not bad. smoke introduces itself politely and lets some lagery malt profile emerge. Polite smoked lager.

Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Pours a crystal clear golden yellow with thin white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma has notes of grass, corn, some light smoke, bread, lager smell, hints of wood. Flavor is slightly smoky with notes of charred wood, some hints of grassy yeast, bread, light honey notes. Generally light body with a slightly smoky finish. Not overly bad.

The pour was dull and golden with a short, fizzy white head. Spots of lace. The aroma was corn, malt and light spice. No smoke. The flavor followed suit. As the beer opened up there might have been some tiny bit of artificial smoke flavor somewhere. Thin body. Unexciting. Not a smoked.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours with a medium white head over a clear golden body. Aroma of soggy wood, smoke, metal, grass and corn. Taste is lightly smokey, bready, metallic with some corn tortilla. Typical Shiner product. Fizzy and thin. Not horrible, but not good.

Poured with a dark gold body and off white head. Lightly smoked smell with some bread dough. Fresh aroma. The taste is a little meaty with some pears and wood smoke. Overall, a pleasant summer brew.

Bottle from Party Source. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate grainy smoke aroma. Medium body with a thin texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet smoke flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectation where met with a just better then average beer.
