Another gift, from a native Texan that raved on and on about this beer. A clear medium gold, I somehow was expecting a bit more color, large white head. Light smokey, ham scent that carries into the flavor. I’m not a huge Rauch fan, probably due to beers like this.

This clear golden beer poured with a massive off-white head and a mequite aroma. There is a thin caramel malt flavor and a fair amount of smoke. It probably goes well with barbequed meat, but does not stand on its own very well.

Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR in the summer secret santa. Pours crystal clear golden yellow with a medium to large creamy white head. Little bit of grain and smoke. Nice subtle smoke in the body, but the graininess creeps up again. Finishes oddly sweet and without much of the smoke coming back. Overall probably a good deal better than it’s average rating, and not something I’d be sad to drink in volume on a hot summer day at a barbecue or somesuch.

clear gold, respectable white head that immediately disappears, not much lace. nose of smoke and sweet malt. some kind of non-descript smokiness dominates the flavor, followed by a sweet maltiness. medium bodied, malty finish. this is a smoked beer and the flavor is smokey, so i guess the brewer has met his truth in advertising responsibilities, but it is also a rather simplistic brew with little to recommend it. single bottle from binny’s in orland park.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear golden with a large, fluffy white head. Nose smelled of a smoky lager. Taste was of smoked jerky. Mouthfeel was thin, resinous and dry. Lots of carbonation. Kinda funky but not complex.

Single bottle buy (Thanks, Mario!) from the Binny’s in Orland Park, IL: It poured a clear golden body with a short head that lingered none too long. No lace at all. Odd aroma - honey, ash tray, and vanilla. The flavor actually wasn’t too bad, a light generic smokiness covering a sweet honey malt. Still, a bit thin and not one that I’d care to repeat.

Septemberfest. Sample from a bottle thanks to nearbeer. Pale yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is smoke char, ash. Taste is light pale maltiness, with a smoky ash, campfire char over that. Nice, it is no Schlenkerla, but for a cheap sixer, it is good.

Slightly smoky dusty nose with hints of fruit and spice. Brilliant deep gold color, crystal clear, medium head. Mouth full of smoke, some honey sweetness, mild bitterness. Big carbonation, lighter body, smokiness is big at first, but ends abruptly. Not bad, and definitely a beer that would be best with food rather than by itself. Good lighter smoked beer.
