| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 3, 2009 In the bottle from Beertopia. Pours light amber/golden with a white head. The aroma is mild, but mostly smells like a moulded fiberglass production plant. The flavor is discernably smoked, but this has nothing on the worst Bamberg bier. Just too watery and mild for my interest to be kept. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 31, 2009 12 oz - The Wine Source. Clear gold, creamy white head. Campfire meat and salty bacon aromas ride just a touch of underlying bread. Soft metallic smoked meat flavor rounds with a slight citric breadiness. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, lightly smoked finish. I’m going with FalcoAlto here and saying this is well underrated. I have never liked anything Shiner has done, but I really enjoyed this... jimmack34 (570), Lancaster, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 30, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours gold with a slight orange hue. Head is very frothy. Smells of malt and smoke. Tastes like smoked pork and pale lager. Flavors of smoked ham, pepper, and hay. Nicely balanced. RasterMaster (125), , Oklahoma, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 30, 2009 Copper blonde pour into thick foamy head that quickly dissipates into a ring of foam as carbonated bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass. Aroma of roasted corn and sweet malt. Initial flavor of sweet malt with a hint of hops fading into a smoky peppery finish. maltdog (518), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 29, 2009 Fizzy yellow-gold with no real foam. The aroma is, well… smokehouse… campfire embers, smoked ham, bbq brisket… with a nutty pilsner malt backup. I’m pleasantly surprised, it smells a whole lot better than I expected, mouthwatering in fact. The beer stumbles tastewise however; watery-bacony and green apple tartness. Thin, gassy palate... peachy finish and lemonade-sour aftertaste. If anything Shiner made was half decent, the smoke could really work well. The smoke flavor (as well as the acidity) is cumulative, sticking to the tongue with an oily stubborness. Despite its shortcomings, I imagine this would be awesome with food... a midnight binge of huevos rancheros? drowland (1429), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 29, 2009 Aroma is mainly helles, lacking smoke unfortunately. The flavor is helles with touches of smoke, mainly of the bacon/mesquite variety. Typical of Shiner - good but light and easier to drink than the real style. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 28, 2009 Hint of smokey malt in the aroma, followed by some sweet notes of caramel. While served cold, smoked character is faintly present, with more typical Helles-style flavors present. As the beer warms, the smokey character is more prevalent, although still faint when compared to many smoked styles. Overall, not too bad, but not something I would really get again.
