A clear medium gold, I somehow was expecting a bit more color, large white head. Light smokey, ham scent that carries into the flavor. I’m not a huge Rauch fan, probably due to beers like this.

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Dec 16, 2009 Amber with just a little head that disappeared quickly. Not much aroma and the taste was mostly that of smokiness with only a bit of malt. The smokiness lingered in the finish. While this beer is much better with good barbecue, it’s still not that good - and that’s coming from someone that has bought and drank regular Shiner Bock by the keg. BrewingFan (87), Texas, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Pours pale golden with a touch of orange. Very little head brings a the strong aroma of sweet and smokey malt. I am always up for something different and this meets the bill and why my overall score grants it some extra points. Lacks any real complexity other than the smoke flavor. jcwattsrugger (5550), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Nov 26, 2009 With much regret I write this rating. I drink a lot of Shiner, but I won’t be with this one. I love mesquite wood for barbequing, but roasting the malt with it doesn’t do it for me. It oured a weak, small white head that faded immediately. The mesquite overpowers any other taste and is a taste unworthy of the Shiner name. No aftertaste, thankfully, and leaves you giving it away to the guy already to sauced to care. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

pours brilliantly clear and a mix of orange-yellow with copper. the white head is short lived, aggressive and spritzy.
smells of faint mesquite smoke along with its sweetness, grain, spice and some sort of fruit.
the palate is just slightly sweet and contains something (hops?) which mildly numbs the tongue. flavors of lemon, yeast, grain and light smooth smoke.... it is not harsh, sour or acrid at all. pleasant, really. a crisp clean finish before the faint smokiness stays long into the aftertaste.
i don’t know that i would classify this as a ’smoked’. it feels like a pale lager which just happens to have some smoked malts in the recipe... i think i like that!
the body is light-medium. the mouth feel is crisp, prickly and easy drinking. the smoke combined with the texture make this a good fit with food! 6/3/6/3/13/3.1 dogfish120love (275), west hartford, Connecticut, USA

Pours golden with a very thin head that disapates almost immediatly. Tastes like a standard Heeled-style beer, very light with a distinct malt flavor. Overall pretty good for what it is.. a beer that you can enjoy more than four of in a sitting. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2009 Thanks Cavie for sending. Pours a pale soft gold with a one finger frothy offwhite head. The nose is grassy, mild bready sweetness, lite meaty smoke character. Flavor is meaty, has a lite sweetness, very soft hop character, hay, smoke. Palate is softly carbonated with very little bite of any kind. ttutony (69), Texas, USA
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 4/20 | Nov 15, 2009 It took a lot to even finish a bottle of this one. Completely overdone on the smoke flavor. This is a lot like what I think drinking a bottle of liquid smoke would taste like.
