Draught/Bottle. Dry stout with average profile. Has that watery Shipyard texture. Not my favorite but I run into it a lot in town.

Draft. Flat brown in the glass with a nitro smell to it and a thin cover of creamy-looking head. Clean aromas of coffee and dry chickory wood. The palate is fizzy, with lots of carbonation, and extremely light-bodied. Though the beer is dry, it also lacks depth and misses the rich notes that make a dry stout -- any stout -- pleasurable.

Overall I was really disappointed by this brew. Bottle purchased at Capitol Convenience. Pours black, with thick dark crown. This dissipates quickly. Aroma is great. Dark chocolate and roasty coffee. Taste is a letdown. Thin mouthfeel, and a lot less flavor than I wanted. Too much carbonation. Perhaps I got a bad bottle, but I was not crazy about this.

3/30/08 notes: bottle. Smells of intense roasted malts, coffee and alcohol. Pours a dark brown/black with a surprisingly large head. Maybe I got a weird bottle, but this beer poured with a head is tall as the beer itself! Heavy carbonation seemed grossly inappropriate for the subtleties of a stout. I tasted roasted flavors, a dry bitterness (perhaps charcoal?) coffee, and a startlingly conspicuous alcohol flavor. As I continued to sip, the carbonation subsided, yet the bitterness singularly came forward, which was disappointing. Finishes quite dry and bitter. I don’t mean to rag too hard on this beer – it is still a quality brew – but I believe that Shipyard got its balance wrong on this one.

Bottle pours a dark brown almost black with a substantial foamy brown head. Nice lacing on the glass. Mild smokey aroma is mostly roasted malt, some coffee. Flavor is mild, roasted malts, more smokiness with just a touch of bitterness in the finish. More carbonation than I was expecting. Decent stout.

Bottle from Mcox90 in trade. Pours black with a minimal head. no ligh thru the mug. I’m not sure if it is me or that this realy didnt strike me as a Dry stout. It was more of a mundane stout. Some flimsy notes of white chocolate in the nose. Medium body with hardly a hop. A quick finish and a skoash of a bitter aftertaste that hangs about just long wnough for you to notice it. To quote bungalo22 below here no mmmm moment. A fine light bodied stout but no medal winner here.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice-sized dense tan head. Aroma of milk, roasted malt, coffee, oysters, fruit and a bit of a kick of alcohol. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavoured taste with some nuts and vanilla going strong. More malt than anything else with some mild alcoholic tastes. Aftertaste shows some malt and a tiny bit of oak - nothing too strong. Overall, a good beer - nice to try after about 4 years of having it - acquiring it from a trade with matta! I sampled this four-year old 650 mL bottle received in a trade with matta on 14-April-2008. Thanks again Matt!

Pours a black body with a relatively thick tan head but hardly maintains very long. Roasted malt aroma, not very strong. It tastes rather burned which isn’t all that pleasant. Malty, somewhat creamy with a sour/bitter aftetaste. I’ve had far better stouts.
