| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 15, 2008 Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice-sized dense tan head. Aroma of milk, roasted malt, coffee, oysters, fruit and a bit of a kick of alcohol. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavoured taste with some nuts and vanilla going strong. More malt than anything else with some mild alcoholic tastes. Aftertaste shows some malt and a tiny bit of oak - nothing too strong. Overall, a good beer - nice to try after about 4 years of having it - acquiring it from a trade with matta! I sampled this four-year old 650 mL bottle received in a trade with matta on 14-April-2008. Thanks again Matt! changeup45 (802), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Pours a black body with a relatively thick tan head but hardly maintains very long. Roasted malt aroma, not very strong. It tastes rather burned which isn’t all that pleasant. Malty, somewhat creamy with a sour/bitter aftetaste. I’ve had far better stouts. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Bottle: Tan head, black, tons of carbonations, big volcanic nature. Nose of chalk and coffee, sweet mocha and light soap. Flavor is thin, dry lightly bitter and some grassy fig notes. Decent. Bungalo22 (326), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Updated: Jun 21, 2008Pours midnight black with a slight aroma of roast. The body is medium to light-medium and not at all what the color leads you to believe it will be but perhaps it is what the aroma does. It just underpowers and is not my definition of a true full body stout. I have a deep fondess for Shipyard as I lived in Portland for a long time but I will stick the rest of their line and drink my stouts elsewhere. Perhaps I have too high an expectation for a stout due to my love of Imperial stouts. This will end up as a mid-level stout in my ratings. Very drinkable and enjoyable but no real mmmm moment.
Re-rate: Had this one up in Maine it was much sharper than when I had it in Conn. Head was better, aroma had more chocolate and it felt more full bodied. I upped it on palate and overall impression. blipp (1730), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee and smoke. Medium body. Flavor is smoky, burnt wood, roasted malt, just a touch of sweetness with a lingering bitter finish. Quite good but not outstanding. Pastor (509), Maine, USA

Served in a pint glass thick dark head on top of a jet black body the head lasted the whole time I had the beer
Aromas of coffee and chocolate
Flavors of roasted malts and grains (chocolate and coffee) and a light I mean light hop finish
Great thick mouthfeel with a good bit of carbonation
Good stout if you want something different than the usual suspects

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Bottle from Secret Santa - Thanks! Dark brown pour with a massive, overflowing tan head. Roasted malts, cofee grounds, light bitters, and cocoa are abundant in the aroma. Flavor is right on track, but with more coffee and bitters. Highly carbonated! | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 28, 2008 Pours with a cascading nitro head (draft @ redlight). Whoa! I didn’t expect that. 1 finger of thick creamy beige head. The distinct creamy roast of nitro stout is soon apparent, as the cascading bubbles settle down to create a clean layer of beige and black. There’s alot of ashy roast along side a cold creaminess and gassy emptiness. Pretty one-dimensional with roast and anything else is masked by the nitro.
