Label said best consumed before June 2004. For a 5% ABV beer, I am not very hopeful but Beerskeller stores its beers in wall unit refrigeration. Black hued stout with small tan head. No discernable carbonation. Fruity (prune) aroma. Medium bodied stout that starts dry with mild prune/smoky/burnt malt flavors. Finishes dry with light lingering bitterness. Thin textured and monodimensional flavor. No discernable oxidation or off-tastes despite expiration. A decent drinkable dry stout, but nothing particularly memorable. Not at the top of it’s peers but very enjoyable. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 24, 2006 Bottle. Black body, big dark chocolate brown head fades. Metallic sour roast over charred malt aroma. Very dry ashen roast dominates flavour, with sweet malt fleeing in the background. Very slight notes of chocolate as it warms. Average to medium palate. (3+) Decent but really not for me. ElPresidente1984 (173), Maine, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Updated: Sep 10, 2006ORIGNIAL (12-5-05): HUGE tan head with jet black body. Smell not overly noticeable, but a little nutty. Slight nutty/burnt hoppy taste to it... Taste is somewhat comparable to Guinness Extra Stout. Not the best stout I’ve had, but not bad. I’ve never much cared for Shipyard beers, but maybe something I could develop a taste for... Gritty’s Black Fly is better I felt...
RE-RATE: Mostly black body with slight ruby-red highlights around the edges. Very thin tan head. Roasty malty scent. Tastes roasty and sweet, some chocolate notes. Some hop bitterness present too, but very subdued. Tastes better than I remember. I’m not a big Shipyard fan in general, but this is probably one of their better offerings. Try their Brewer’s choice and Prelude. steprous99 (27), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 9, 2005 This beer I had at underground bluz(see review in orlando) very bubbly, not much taste at all. I’ve never been a fan of shipyard beers, and this one is no exception. Poured it’s pretty thick and looks nice but it tastes like soda water and has very little flavor otherwise, my friend took a sip and said it had a coffee flavor, I tried it again and was able to slightly detect that flavor but overall very little flavor, it’s not a bad beer but I wouldn’t buy it again. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 2, 2005 Despite a gentle pour the head on this thing just went crazy, and I had to spend minutes just waiting for it to die down before I could try pouring some more. Overall it tasted good, with dry chocolate flavors with a slightly bitter finish, but it was a little too close to Guinness for me to be impressed.
