It smells like a dry stout with a hint of sweetness but also like burnt coffee. The bitterness is astringent and not unlike burnt coffee . There is a hint of sweetness and hops. The palate is average. This one needs some more time in dry dock. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA

This opened with the loudest pressure pop I’ve undoubtedly ever heard from a non-corked bottle of beer. Pressure out the ass.... it took a good 5 1/2 minutes to fully pour this into a Duvel pint glass because it simply kept overflowing. Big thick viscous dark tan head that just ceased to die and left decent lacing on my glass. Aroma is of chocolate, nuts...i mean heavy peanutty aroma and cocoa and coffee beans. The flavor is medium bodied with a long-lasting coffee and cocoa finish. Hints of chocolate and more roasty peanuts..light carbonation, mild tongue coating flavor. Dry malty and cocoa grainy finish. yayforbeer (648), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2005 This thing had some pressure on it when I popped it open. I have never seen a head pour off a beer like that.. At first I thought I mishandled it but others report the same. Black with good roasty stout aromas. Thin in the mouth but the flavors were good, with the roastiness really coming through. Coffee, chocolate, and malts. Dry with some hop bitterness at the end. Fairly tasty and drinkable after you get past the huge head and carbonation. A bit of cola tartness which is nice. I get that peanut butter nutty taste also. Nice. BT (85), Newtown, Connecticut, USA

It pours a deep, dark brown with a nice tan head. The aroma is of roasted coffee and bitter chocolate. SOme vanilla hints. Fairly full and robust in the mouth. The flavor is subtle chocolate-infused roasted coffee. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 18, 2004 Pours like an Imperial and smells like a porter. Body is black with an inch thick tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, malt, with a little wheat and butterscotch. Kinda of nutty taste with peanut butter, hops, and chocolate. Differant to say the least. Tastes malty, chocoffy, with a dry finish. Decent palate, but not very firm. A very good, but not elite, stout. I will buy this again. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA

The bottle I sampled gave a humongous head (four inches)! We must have shaken the bottle while watching the World Series.
