Roasty aroma along with a bit of bread. Flavor was roasty as well with a bitter coffee finish. Medium body. Decent stout. jsquire (2107), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Apr 10, 2004 Dark beer out of the bottle with a foamy tan head that would not go away. Too much carbonation on the tongue. Lots of charcol, ash, roast coffee, bitter chocolate and a little blood. Nice bitter coffee sensation in the exhale. Decent stout. warrior (213), Mt. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2004 Good roasted malt coffee aroma. Black opaque color with an average brown head. Good roasted malt coffee type flavors as I would expect form a good stout. This is a well made stout and I will have no problem drinking it again. TBone (6804), Pori, Finland

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 30, 2004 The head just explodes out of the glass no matter how carefully you pour it. It's actually pretty darn iritating. As usual, it's a bit of a second-rate offering from Shipyard. Color looks about right, pitch black with a tan head. If only you could keep the head down to a normal level.
As MartinT mentioned, there is little complexity in the aroma and flavor. Roasted malt and coffee flavors are quite prevalent, but it has nothing else going for it.
This brew is medium-bodied with way too much carbonation and a too-thin mouthfeel. Way too fizzy.
I dunno, all in all it was not a beer worth drinking again. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 29, 2004 Prevalent roastiness with blueberry undertones...The body is a bit too carbonated, and even metallic at times, and lacks in malt complexity to my tastes...Roastiness lasts, even meets a little coffee bean, but this doesn't change the fact that this isn't much of a conversation piece...
