Enough complexity to keep the beer geek guessing about the malt and hops mix, enough flavor to keep everyone else happy. Nice toasty notes with a creamy mouthfeel. footbalm (1219), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Didn’t get any smoke but there was a slight resemblence to a sour brown. The roasted barley came out and there seemed to be a toffee candy taste. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA

A very typical looking brown ale....dark translucent brown, moderate tan head. Very roasty flavor with a some nice porter-ish qualities. I like DFH Indian Brown better, but this is a nice effort. Nice lingering bitterness in the end. Tasty. JFURYCAT (792), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 18, 2006 Updated: May 19, 2006Brown ale with a toasty grainy flavor coupled with a unique smokey nutty flavor characteristic of dark roasted folger’s coffee. Like folger’s it has the essential elements without anything over the top. The mouthfeel is smooth and it adds drinkability to this brew. The nice thing about this beer is how they blend a lot of ingredients together to create a balanced beer that must be pretty good on tap. This is the best Shipyard beer I’ve had besides their Old Thumper interpretation. This seems like a very under-rated beer IMHO. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 3, 2006 A dark brown body rests under a foamy off-white head. Aroma of Heath bar, some grassy hops, hints of chocolate. Medium body with some substance in texture. The flavor was lightly sweet, nutty, buttery. Not a bad brew but questionable as a brewer’s choice. Unless there wasn’t much else to choose from.
