Commercial Description:
The complexity of this limited edition brew comes from the interplay between the roasted nutty undertones of Crystal, Chocolate and Black malts and the sweetness of orange blossom honey. Balance is achieved by the addition of Warrior and Tettnang hops. Ample body and smooth mouth feel enhance drinkabilty. Don't get stung and miss this one! 6.25% alcohol by volume.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a full, lush tan head. Smell: What a sweet-smelling, candyish nose! Aside from a little chocolate and coffee, its like sniffing a big glass of the Indian Corn you get at Halloween. Taste: Sweet!! Caramel syrup and thick ribbons of honey. There’s also plenty of roasty espresso, cocoa powder, and molasses. A bit of hops near the finish try to temper the sweetness. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: For those of you who love you some sweet, sweet honey, then this just may be the beer for you, and if its not this beer, then its likey another one.

(Rating #1135)

12oz bottle via trade with porterhouse! - Thanks Kevin! - Pours very dark brown with a fair tan head that leaves a good amount of lace around the glass. Aromas of molasses, roasted malt, and chocolate. Flavor is lots of molasses, chocolate and roast but there is honey there that is mostly at the back of the sip. Fairly smooth and drinkable. A pretty solid porter overall..

12 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Poured a clear dark brown color with orange highlights. Head was light tan with good retention. Smelled of malty molasses and milk chocolate. Dry on the tongue with lots of roasty malt and some grassy hop flavor. Initial roasty/hoppy bitterness mellows toward the end.

Deep roasted red colour. Soft, full white head. Very smooth palate with soft chocolate flavours coming through on a mildy roast palate. The flavour of the honey is not immediately apparent but lingers pleasantly. I’m not a big fan of honey in my beer, but this one pulls it off better than most.

Black color that shines through red. Low foam but impressive lace. No carbonation in the glass. Aroma - Honey first followed by roasted cocoa and large amount of hops. An impressive smell for mass produced porter. Heavy viscosity somewhat overly carbonated. Flavor is strong espresso like, laced with honey. Somewhat bitter, malt is not noticed but hoppiness is. Nice effort from Shipyard.

A very enjoyable and silky smooth porter, with just the right amount of honeyed sweetness.

Pours a very dark brown with tan 2 finger head. Aroma is sweet with hints of chocolate and roasted malts. A good full bodied sweet beer, but with a real thick taste. Can’t drink more than one.
