stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 13, 2006 Pours clear copper with a decent sized head, good aroma floral hop and caramel malt aroma, decent flavor hints of hops and a very well blended flavor of sweet malts, not a typical pale ale, i enjoyed this, and would drink it again, full bodied, tastes stronger than 4.8%. CamdenD (606), Madrid, Spain Dec 30, 2005 Very solid pale ale. The hops came through strong at the end and provided a nice crisp taste. Not much on the nose and the beer is a clear pale copper. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA Dec 16, 2005 This was a good english pale, but certainly not classic. It had the sweet carmel malt that you would look for in a pale. But more overwhelming there was this buttery, wood-like flavor. Very creamy texture. I liked it a lot. Pours copper color with creamy head. I’d drink it again for sure. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA Nov 16, 2005 Clear coppery hue, modest head formation. Creamy toffee aroma, toasty malt, mild fruity hop spice. Hoppy, citrussy, spicy palate, plenty of bite especially in the finish. Toasted, mildly biscuity malt. Pretty much in the English pale ale mold. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Nov 15, 2005 1.9 pinter. This guy bounced back and forth on me. One moment, a tolerable, not great, somewhat crispy, cigar hop flavour to one of stale hops and mildew. I could gather only a few instances where something would jump on the palate. I guess what I tasted was a little bit nutti and maybe some raisons and grass. Not very well balanced and a rather dry experience. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Nov 6, 2005 (22 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with BierBauch, thanks Ron!) This is a pretty nice beer. Very solid nuttiness jumps right out from the first sip of this lightly sweet beer, but moderately bitter hops comes on toward the finish and provides the perfect balance. And it actually tastes like hops, not just some random bitterness. The nose is also very nutty, plus somewhat grassy as well. Body is medium, but the oily mouthfeel is very slick and smooth, and the finish is dry and fairly crisp. Amber, slightly hazy body is nice but the bubbly, off-white head is the real show here. It pours to over two inches in height and takes several minutes to subside to a quarter inch, leaving many patches of dense foamy lace on the glass. Not a great beer, but the pleasant flavors and solid balance make this an enjoyable and well-crafted beer. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA Oct 29, 2005 I found this beer to be extremely dry. Very lightly hopped, okay feel. Decent beer. asheft (1374), Marburg, Germany Oct 27, 2005 [bottle]
Really pleasant aroma of caramel and melanoidin with a US hops undertone and a hint of tobacco/raisin. Clear copper with bubbly ring and just some wispy white lace on top. Flavour begins a bit bland and soda watery but blossoms into a British tasting toffee and raisin with only a hint of hops flavour and a moderate bitterness. Also subtle dried fruits. A little bit of mouth coating buttery diacetyl, but not so much to detract from the quality of this brew. Really nice flavour, if a bit weak. Light to medium body with medium carbonation
