Good Lacing...Smells of light straw malts and piney hops with a disturbing odor of solvent and bandage...Medium bodied and sticky in texture with average carbonation. A chalky finish...Tastes lightly sweet and dry, almost nutty. Somewhat bitter but the fuggles are underneath and it comes across muted and muddy....Overall, very disappointing due to an extremely poor aftertaste. Did not age well at all. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 6, 2006 Finger-thick khaki head with reddish amber body. Smell is overwelmingly floral and grassy hops. Tastes very hoppy (grassy, some floral) with hints of sweet malt. Despite the smell, the flavor is surprisingly balanced, albeit somewhat light. Surprisingly pleasant and drinkable for a Shipyard, and for a hoppy IPA. One of the better ones I’ve had from them - get a Brewer’s Choice or Prelude over this one though. da845 (139), new york, New York, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2006 Fluffy off-white head towers above the crystal sienna liquid. The not-unattractive weedy, spicy, swampy Fuggles musk is showcased in the nose, and accompanied by biscuity, walnutty malt, caressed by bubblegum and citus zest. Refreshingly "English" hop aromatics, in lieu of the same old overly faddish PNW and German-origin varieties. Flavor is initially honey and rose petals, and then... apple and plum, just as advertised! Medium-bodied and "round" mouthfeel. Finish is crisp and grainy; an interesting interplay of balanced muddy/ashy/slate-y bitterness and menthol coolness, snappy like a wet towel on an unsuspecting buttock. Peppery, papery, and freshly-plowed earth aftertaste. Cunnilingual spiciness. It’s nice to finally see a hop counterpoint to the funky Ringwood esters. Commercial description is spot on. This beer has an intriguing complexity and is almost haphazardly balanced... serendipity, baby! oh6gdx (8886), Vasa, Finland
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Bottled. Orange colour, small head. Flowery and grassy hops in both aroma and flavour. Very watery and boring, it lacks all fruitish hops and most other things US IPA’s usually have. Waste of money. Magicdave6 (5546), London, Greater London, England
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Aroma seems to have to much malts, biscuit and a hint of grass. Taste is similar too biscuity and one dimentional. milewide (613), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
