Commercial Description:
Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

February Houston Tasting. Thanks to kp for sharing this beer. Dark pour with white head. Roasted malts and raisins on the nose. Flavor of coffee and toffee...a bit thin, but enjoyable.

Pours a dark brown with a smallish light tan head. Smells of swet toffee. cocoa powder, andcaramel malt. Light traces of roast were noticeable as well. The flavor was a bit overly sweet with not much semblance of balance at all. Kind of dry in the finish, with not much of the roasty malts that I look forward to in a porter. i didnt get much of the hops that its supposed to have either. Just mostly pounding caramel and toffee. Disappointing.

Pours dark with a modest head leaving behind a dusty canopy and lace. I smell cocoa and paint. Medium nectar with good carbonation creates a velvety texture. Bitter cocoa in the fore with spilled coffee bean dark roasted. The finish linger a while. This is a rather dry style.

As I say sometimes, "s’ok." Pours black with tan head. The flavor is full of roasty chocolate notes, but there is a hint of sulfur in the background that kind of ruins this beer. What could have been a great beer turns strangely pungent at the wrong moment. Don’t get me wrong, great dry finish and all smoke and roastiness.

This black ale poured with a huge tan head and a bready malt aroma. The flavor is roasted malt with a slight bit of treacle - quite thin for a porter. A decent brew with a nice label, but not much substance.

Bottle from BevMo. Dark brown/black color with a substantive beige/tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and perhaps treacle. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is lightly toasted dark malt with a little coffee, a little chocoate, and maybe a little anise. Hints of smoke. Finishes with floral hop - weird - and mild bitterness. Nice brew.

Poured black with a hint of mahogany when held up to the light. One-finger head dissipated quicky to really no film and little lacing. Coffee and black licorice were the strongest aromas along with the roasted malt. Smoky malt dominates the taste, but there’s plenty of coffee an chocolate backing it up. Some dark fruit in the background. Medium body, minimal carbonation, and the smokiness lingers in the aftertaste. Very nice, and worthy of more.

Malt and licorice aroma. Dark color with some tan foam. Malty sour bitterness throught the flavor.
