Commercial Description:
Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

As I say sometimes, "s’ok." Pours black with tan head. The flavor is full of roasty chocolate notes, but there is a hint of sulfur in the background that kind of ruins this beer. What could have been a great beer turns strangely pungent at the wrong moment. Don’t get me wrong, great dry finish and all smoke and roastiness.

This black ale poured with a huge tan head and a bready malt aroma. The flavor is roasted malt with a slight bit of treacle - quite thin for a porter. A decent brew with a nice label, but not much substance.

Bottle from BevMo. Dark brown/black color with a substantive beige/tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and perhaps treacle. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is lightly toasted dark malt with a little coffee, a little chocoate, and maybe a little anise. Hints of smoke. Finishes with floral hop - weird - and mild bitterness. Nice brew.

Poured black with a hint of mahogany when held up to the light. One-finger head dissipated quicky to really no film and little lacing. Coffee and black licorice were the strongest aromas along with the roasted malt. Smoky malt dominates the taste, but there’s plenty of coffee an chocolate backing it up. Some dark fruit in the background. Medium body, minimal carbonation, and the smokiness lingers in the aftertaste. Very nice, and worthy of more.

Malt and licorice aroma. Dark color with some tan foam. Malty sour bitterness throught the flavor.

Good porter. Has some rich choc and coffee flavors, slightly heavy on the palate. I could drink this all night.

Bomber with a screw-top from the Sam’s in Downers Grove, Illinois - It poured an intensely dark brown body, clear around the edges, with a tan head full of bubbles of all sizes. It had an aroma of burnt barley, dark malts, bittersweet chocolate, and a bit of licorice. That sounds good, but the "burnt" part seemed out of place. It tasted better, a jolt of alcohol and a touch of earthy bitterness rounding it out more. The finish was dry and hot with alcohol. Not bad.
