| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 28, 2009 Bomber with a screw-top from the Sam’s in Downers Grove, Illinois - It poured an intensely dark brown body, clear around the edges, with a tan head full of bubbles of all sizes. It had an aroma of burnt barley, dark malts, bittersweet chocolate, and a bit of licorice. That sounds good, but the "burnt" part seemed out of place. It tasted better, a jolt of alcohol and a touch of earthy bitterness rounding it out more. The finish was dry and hot with alcohol. Not bad. puboflyons (623), New Hampshire, USA

Pours a very dark brown (alomost black) with a short-lived foamy tan head that settles down after a few minutes. The aroma is of chocolate malts and faint but bitter hops. The mouthfeel is full bodied. The taste is a bit like smoky licorice but the hop bite is pretty good. Get it while it lasts. Who knows how long Shipyard will continue brewing it? It has an aroma of molasses, alcohol, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is of the same with roasted malt coming through as well. This medium bodied brew is very thin and watery. I was expecting more from the aroma but this is quite light and weak. nearbeer (1880), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 21, 2009 650 ml. Opaque with a quarter-inch of creamy foam that lasts. Initial strong aroma of butterscotch fades (thankfully) to light coffee and butterscotch. Flavor is the same, with some marshmallow, sourish apple and green herb. Long finish of lightly sweetened coffee, char and dark-roasted nut is the best part. Heavy body is drinkably watery, roasty dry and smoothly carbonated. Nice lacing left behind. This one looks and feels good; wish it only tasted some better! jkwalking05 (1501), Arlington, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 19, 2009 Bottle thanks to mar. Deep brown in color with a small beige head. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate and vinegar. Taste is thankfully missing the vinegar and is mainly of coffee and roasted malts. WeeHeavySD (3041), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

Pours black with a tan head. Nose is dead. Taste is really pretty damn horrible. Who is shipyard fooling, if your going to make big beers and interesting beers, try to get them not to horribly suck!
