Commercial Description:
Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

A fabulous aroma of malt, coffee, and an alcohol warmth. The first sips are good, rich and roasty, but it gets a bit syrupy with a kind of grainy body to it.

Nice coffee aroma. The flavor is a bit similar; slightly stale coffee with hints of licorice and a dry coffee finish.

Bottle thanks to daknole: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a thin, froth of off-white head. Has a lightly sweet toasty dark caramel nose with some dark fruitiness. Starts with average fullness and a toasty caramel and milk chocolate sweetness before a mild, bittersweet finish. Could use more body and sweetness, but still a pretty enjoyable brew.

Dark brown with a 2 cm pale beige head that settles rather fast. Some lacings. Quite a lot of butterscotch in the nose. Some fudge. Malts and dark fruits. Notes of coffee. A decent smell with quite a round character. But the butterscotch seems a little out of place. The taste is mostly smooth dark malts with notes of rye bread and chocolate. The finish is kind of short and has a minimal bitterness to it with notes of nuts and a gentle spicy hop bite. Some alcohol. The taste is overall quite uninteresting and one-sided, but nothing is really off. Medium body, too much carbonation and an almost watery texture. An okay beer. Nothing I will remember for the rest of my life, but still decent. But decent is not really enough for a Baltic/Imperial porter - there are so many better beers of this style out there. From the Bottle at RBESG Harlequin, Sheffield 19/07/2009 Some hop aroma. Daek coloured and strong in alcohol with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter roast finish.
