Commercial Description:
Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

Bomber from BevMo ($7.99). The twist-off cap was not a good sign. Pours almost black (I do catch noticeable light through the glass) with about a finger of dark brown head which quickly goes away. Aroma of mildly roasted dusty sweet malts, caramel, and butterscotch. Flavor is hard roasted malts with only hints of chocolate and toffee. Could actually use some more sweetness. The finish has a taste that is overly burnt and ashy, and it lingers too long which is a problem. Good, but far from great in this, one of my very favorite beer styles. At 7.1% (and it does feel light), I’m not sure that this is properly called an "imperial" porter, but whatever.

Dark with an off white head. Aroma has an ever so light hint of chocolate and almost nothing else, mellow roast. Flavor is slightly sweet and herbal, a really odd metallic bad bitterness and ringwood beyond belief. Nastyness.

Aroma is not strong, but it does tempt the taste buds. It is more sweet than smoky, being mainly chocolaty and molasses-ish with a yeasty overtone - rather unusual. It pours an opaque dark chocolate brown with a fairly thick pale beige head. Flavor is smokier than the aroma and mainly of sweet chocolate with a molasses undertone and nutty and yeast hints. Texture is smooth as glass and just a little fizzy, leaving a slightly sweet finish.

22 oz. bottle - first time ever seeing a screw top bomber; pours dark brown, mostly clear with thin tan head; toffee, lactic sweetness, nuts, creamy roast; very thin texture with same lactic sweetness coming through; very nutty also with little chocolate or roast; not too astrigent and finishes with lingering sweet toffee; just crash thin on texture and flavor profile
