Commercial Description:
Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

Pours black with a pretty thick head. Nose of mocha coffee. Bit of hop in there as well. Fresh hops to a porter is a nice surprise. Alcohol is non existent. A little light though. Slightly thin.

Pours black with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate, cream, caramel, some hop spice. Taste is the same, mild chocolate with vanilla. Medium body with a lot of carbonation.

Bottle. Thank you Christianscheffel. Pours black with a large creamy brown head. Vaguely roasted nose and taste with vanilla, chocolate and fruit. Creamy and full bodied. Nice.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a semi-opaque softly carbonated dark red brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The deep aroma was brown malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of hops roasted malt dark malt and burnt malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

I got this bottle from the Shipyard rep, so thank you. This one is very dark, it seems to be basically pitch black. There is a significant amount of head that is a dark brown color. Aroma is mainly of malts with some undertones consisting of chocolate, caramel, and hops. Taste is malts, hops, chocolate, and a roasty undertone. Leaves a nice bite in the end that lingers on for a little bit. Impressive.

I was much more impressed with this than the Imperial IPA but all the signature series so far are not as impressive as I hoped. With that said. I liked this beer. It had a Shiraz wine character that I enjoyed. It was tasty and satisfying.

Bottle. Small tan head that was very fizzy, quickly diminished, virtually no lacing, mostly opaque with enough light to see some carbonation, and a dark brown-black hue. The aroma was malty, coffee, roasty, hoppy, and some chocolate. The flavor was malty, hoppy, chocolate, roasty, some burnt flavors, and a dry finish. A mostly smooth mouthfeel with some tinglyness and this beer is medium bodied. Easy to drink for the style with a lingering roasty, burnt afteertaste. That being said, the flavor of this beer was rather simple and somewhat lackluster given the style which caused this beer to be rather disappointing IMO.
