Commercial Description:
Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

22 oz bottle from redlight redlight. Coffee, chocolate and ringwood yeast on the nose. Pours dark brown almost black with no head. Smooth roasty, coffee, chocolate with bitter chocolate. There is a definite ringwood flavor, its pretty good.

This is a nice one. Raisiny, prune-like flavours abound along with a hint of smoke and scotch. The strong robust taste make one think of a Stout; yet the body remains true to a traditional Porter style. Finishes off with a lingering dark chocolate cacao soother. Excellent!

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Black color; creamy head. Mild aroma and stronger flavor, with a quite strong and smooth mouthfeel, but not thick body, based on roasted malt and coffee, with a light creamy touch too. Quite well blended.

Bottle. Pours black with a small, fizzy light brown head, somewhat diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (chocolate, coffee, burnt grain), light hop (herbs), average yeast (leather) with notes of ashed wood and plum. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Poured in a tsting glass from the tap. The color is a deep dark brown, the head is a slightly brownish white head. The smell is a little coffee as well as a dark chocolate flavor. The taste was a little strong. Bitter with coffee flavoring, some hints of dark chocolate, edgy but not strong enough to push you over. This beer was one of the first Potters I’ve had. I wasn’t disapointed, a great even blend of flavors made this experience memorable.

Grand Tasting @ The Harlequin, Sheffield.
Pours clear brownish black with a small, beige film head. Aroma is buttery, roasted malts and milky chocolate. Prickly carbonation, fair mouthfeel. Flavour has chocolate, butter, coffee and milk. Fair, lingering vinious and dry aftertaste.

Bomber thanks to Marc. Poured medium cola brown with a very nice creamy cap of tan head. The aroma picked up charred darker chocolate and coffee notes upfront with toasted nutty and coconut accents.. soft overall for an "imperial" porter, but no complaints. The flavor didn’t quite hold up so well.. semi-sweet chocolate primarily at the core, but with a cheap feel to it.. some sweeter chocolates toward the edges, and a little coffee roast as well.. a little other hay-like bitterness joined the coffee.. a touch of coconut, more chocolate, and a pinch of cleanser on the finish. Medium-bodied with a scratchy feel on the palate.. never bad per se, but nothing to make me want to go back for more.
