Commercial Description:
Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

Probably one of the best imperial porters out there. Dark and chocolatey with nice dark malts. Very good hop balance as well. A treat!

really impressed with this one. pours black with a thin tan head that disappears fast. nose is nutty, dark coffee, bitter chocolate and a little alcohol. taste is sweet upfront and bitter coffee/burnt malts throughout. finishes with bitter sweet chocolate and finishes crisp. great porter by any standards

Aroma is not strong, but it does tempt the taste buds. It is more sweet than smoky, being mainly chocolaty and molasses-ish with a yeasty overtone - rather unusual. It pours an opaque dark chocolate brown with a fairly thick pale beige head. Flavor is smokier than the aroma and mainly of sweet chocolate with a molasses undertone and nutty and yeast hints. Texture is smooth as glass and just a little fizzy, leaving a slightly sweet finish.

Fom the 1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle with no expiration date or lot number. Pours a very dark brown (alomost black) with a short-lived foamy tan head that settles down after a few minutes. The aroma is of chocolate malts and faint but bitter hops. The mouthfeel is full bodied. The taste is a bit like smoky licorice but the hop bite is pretty good. Get it while it lasts. Who knows how long Shipyard will continue brewing it?

~Pours black with creamy off white head. ~Bready and buttery scent. Also alcohol and chocolate. ~Burnt chocolate malts with espresso. Good flavor. ~Thin and oily feel. Bitter finish. ~Very enjoyable porter. Good flavor. I feel this is underated. As far as porters go this is very good.

Pours a two finger light tan head that leaves traces of lace. Almost black, faint mahogany highlights color. Roasted coffee nose. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Flavor is smooth, roasted coffee, slight burnt coffee finish. Pricey for Shipyard - $10.15 for a 22 oz bottle from Tullys Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Ft. Myers, Fl. - Total Wines - 22 oz bomber/ Pours a deep, dark brown fading to back with a nice sized mocha colored head. Rich aroma of chocolate, licorice and potting soil. Flavor is similar in nature with some bitter coffee notes shining through, some creosote, top soil, and a hint of vanilla, marshmallows and a bit of licorice in the back end. Good chalkiness to the mouthfeel. One of the best I have had from Shipyard.

Poured in a tsting glass from the tap. The color is a deep dark brown, the head is a slightly brownish white head. The smell is a little coffee as well as a dark chocolate flavor. The taste was a little strong. Bitter with coffee flavoring, some hints of dark chocolate, edgy but not strong enough to push you over. This beer was one of the first Potters I’ve had. I wasn’t disapointed, a great even blend of flavors made this experience memorable.
