There is a bit of an off-white head that drops off rather quickly. The aroma is nice, with mainly floral and spicy notes. A hint of the malts come through also. The taste is quite good also. A bit of nuttiness up front, with some of the spices in the background. A bit of a dry bitterness to the finish. A very good winter beer. When it came to me it had no head, but a rich amber color. The aroma is hoppy with a hint of spices, which I cannot distinguish. The mouth feel is much like an IPA. It is hearty, and quite hoppy, but very tasty. However, the alcohol content, while not high, seems to taste higher to me, which is not a plus. However, for me that the only real downside to this beer. AlKHall (161), West Hartford, Connecticut, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Oct 28, 2006 Bottle. Pours a deep amber with almost no head. Nose is malt laden. Flavor is malt dominated with almost no hops. Sweet, but still the malts make you take notice. Very lightly carbonated. A bitter finish completes the taste. A bomber with the leftover brew still in the refrigerator. I’m not sure if I really want to revisit this one SuIIy (1453), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jul 8, 2006 22oz bottle. About 9 months old at consumption. Pours a dark copper color with a white foamy head. Nose is very malty and lots of caramel, light hop hint. Palate is syrupy carbonated. Flavor is that of an awful after dinner mint, the kind that has the chocolate coating, except this didnt have the chocolate coating, just the awful mint center. Hints of caramel and sweet malt were also found, but the mint stood out the most. Finish was a bit heavy on the sugar and syrup. wilkie (1191), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 25, 2006 Bottle. Pours brown, with medium head, and has caramel and malty overtones in aroma. Flavor is similar, with a sugar taste, and has a thin finish. Not bad for shipyard.
