Commercial Description:
XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body to balance the harmony of distinct flavors.Cascade, Warrior,Summit and Glacier hops are used for bittering and Cascade hops are added for dry hopping after fermentation. This hop blend is well balanced with malted wheat, pale ale, crystal, and caramel malts. To full enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This beer pairs well with Cajun dishes, blackened fish, and BBQ. XXXX draws its name from the British brewing convention of using X’s to denote style. 70 BU,s, 1.092 OG.

Best from Shipyard so far. Huge nose of hops and sweet malts. Clear golden body, large white head (some wheat?), great lacing. No need for balance, just solid sweet malt background, grapefruit, pine, resin, and bitterness. Bitter finish, and surprisingly dry given the sweetness of the initial malt experience.

Pours a golden copper color with a good head and adequate carbonation. Aroma is of hops, floral, citrus, pine, and more hops. The first taste hits you pretty strongly - very hoppy and slight malts (the way I like it) - and at first I didn’t think I’d like it, but this one really grows on you. The 9.2% warms you up quickly and the wonderful hop flavors persist through the finish, but don’t leave you with a bitter taste. Very enjoyable, though in the end, it tastes hoppier than the IBUs would indicate - almost up there with a Ruination (100+) but it’s really only at 70.

Bottle. A deep amber color with a foamy white head. A strong crisp pine, grass and citrus aroma that is almost biting when the beer is cold. A spicy pine hop flavor with a touch of sweetness on an otherwise dry bitter palate. It is kind of rough, but I appreciate its aggressiveness.

Pours a two finger white head that fades slowly to thin layer leaving a good lace. Almost clear amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Grapefruit hop nose. Flavor is sweet grapefruit hops with a piney hop finish. Higher ABV is hidden. $7.50 for a 22oz bottle from Smiley’s Beverage Dover, NH.

Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Big white fluffy haed that quickly dissapears to a thin lace. Opaque orange color. Aroma with lots of caramell and fruits with nice hops. Taste is alcoholic in the beginning than you start to notice the caramell and a plesent bitterness with a small hop taste. A litle to strong to be perfect but still a real good IPA.
