Commercial Description:
XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body to balance the harmony of distinct flavors.Cascade, Warrior,Summit and Glacier hops are used for bittering and Cascade hops are added for dry hopping after fermentation. This hop blend is well balanced with malted wheat, pale ale, crystal, and caramel malts. To full enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This beer pairs well with Cajun dishes, blackened fish, and BBQ. XXXX draws its name from the British brewing convention of using X’s to denote style. 70 BU,s, 1.092 OG.

Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Big white fluffy haed that quickly dissapears to a thin lace. Opaque orange color. Aroma with lots of caramell and fruits with nice hops. Taste is alcoholic in the beginning than you start to notice the caramell and a plesent bitterness with a small hop taste. A litle to strong to be perfect but still a real good IPA.

On tap in a snifter. The aroma is quite fruity and there a big hint of alcohol. The flavor is very bitter of course with a certain tang that really reminds me of extract homebrewing - possibly some oxidation. Also I think there may be some diacetyl.

THOUGHTS: Well balance. Lots of great flavors and aroma, but they didn’t seem to meld together as well as they could. This rating was my 795th rating in three full years being a member of RateBeer. Woohoo. I’m hoping to reach beer god status in my fourth year. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark orangey amber with reddish-orange highlights and an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was heavy caramel malt, heavy orangey citrus hops, and light alcohol. The initial flavor was rather sweet, bitter and acidic; while the finish was very sweet, rather bitter and acidic with a long duration. There was caramel, sugar water, ruby-red grapefruit, resinous hops, a little alcohol, orangey hops and a bit of metallic hops. The slightly more than medium body was a bit syrupy and then rather dry with rather fizzy carbonation and a dry, lightly alcoholic, lightly astringent and slightly metallic finish.

Hazy amber pour with a slight offwhite head. Aroma is slightly perfumed, with some floral hoping and a bit of sweet caramel malt. Flavor is sweet and fruity hoppy, rather drinkable with a slight alcohol warmth. Not spectacular but pretty good.

22 oz. bottle via trade with smith4498 - Pours a hazy amber color with a 2/3 finger thick off white head. Aroma is floral and herbal hops with a touch of soap. Very light lacing. Flavor is herbal and pine hops with a nice bit of lightly sweetened malt to balance in out. No lingering astringent aftertaste. Medium body. A pleasant, very drinkable IPA. Thanks Jason.
