Chapter Three, our Fruit Beer, is strongly influenced by the monastic brewers from Belgium. We use both malted barley and unmalted wheat together with Hallertau and Saaz hops to create our base beer for our different seasonal fruit beers. While the European brewers may have a preference for Cherry beers we wanted to use only locally grown fruits in our beers. Depending on the time of year we will brew with either pineapple, strawberry, or more commonly the local mangos which grow throughout Shongweni Valley. We only use whole fruits to produce our beer, and we use a lot of it too, no extracts or flavourings here. This is always appreciated, not only by those who drink our beer but also by the lucky pigs who get a nice fruit supplement to their normal malt or wheat diet from our spent grains. The colour of the beer depends on the fruit that we use but all have a great natural carbonation and good head on the beer when poured. The beer has a low bitterness of around 20 units with an ABV of 3.5%.

340ml bottle from Beers Of Europe. Very yeasty in a muddy yeasty way. Dusty bitterness which is probably more yeast than hops. Very little in the way of fruit - any fruit, let alone pineapple. Not light, fruity and refreshing at all! Quite dreary and bitter. I love fruit beers, but this and the Mango have been real disappointments.

Bottled as Robsons fruit beer mild pineapple. An unclear light yellow beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of pineapples as well as light wheaty notes. The flavor is sweet wheaty combined with notes of pineapples, leading to a very dry and wheaty finish.

34 cL bottle (as Robsons fruit beer mild pineapple 3.7%)@chris_o’s place, thanks Chris. Pours pale yellow with a lacing head. Fruity aroma with an underlying malt profile, a bit like a belgian blonde. Slight pineapple flavour with a minor sweet note. Ends slight prickling, fruity and slight malty.

Fruit not overly evident (thankfully). Pale, hazy golden colouring. Yeasty, hoppy flavour with touch of citrus. Fresh on palate with v. low bitter effects. Interesting fruit beer, great addition to the SA picnic.

Bottled. RBESG. Cloudy yellow colour. Artificial touch here, with a base of "Americanwheat" with mild pineapple. Pale malty with light body.
