Commercial Description:
Shorelines fiftieth batch of beer made. A strong offering with intermingling flavors of molasses, currant, berries, and caramel. In Scotland this beer is called a “Wee Heavy”.

Had this one draught at the brewpub in Michigan City, Indiana. Cloudy, dark brown pour with a nice foamy light brown head, a very faint nose of strawberry and fruit, caramel, maple sugar, peat; earthy. Not bad, actually, very strong finish. Among the best scotch ales I’ve had but that’s not saying much.

Draft at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Heavy alcohol presence on the nose. Very scotch-like with hints of oak, butter and caramel. Lots of caramel, molasses on the palate. Just a tad out of balance. The hop/malt/wood flavor was just a tad disjointed, but a very nice effort nonetheless. Very rich and oily on the palate.

On tap, Batch 50 for Shoreline, congrats Sam!

Pours a brown hue with amber highlights and no head nor lace. The aroma is very floral with heavy plum and Merlot esters along with notes of grassy hops, molasses and an addition of wild heather. The taste starts malty smooth with the same Wee Heavy notes of fruits. I found some clove and juniper berry like spice notes as it warmed along with a finish of molasses twang. The mouth feel has a note of alcohol and sprite along the edges with a undertone of sea salt and surprisingly dry finish. A solid winter warmer with a layer of flavors once you adapt to the overt fruitiness of the beer. Yep, a love it or hate it kinda brew.

One tap at the brewpub. This beer is completely over run with fruity esters. Damn near undrinkable. Pretty thin palate. Not good at all.

Draft at the brew pub. Described on their board as a heavy scotch ale. The waiter said it was a strong version of the Beltain Scottish Ale. Clear, orange-brown color. Similar to the Beltian, the aroma was of light dried cherry. Tasted of biscuity malt and dried fruits accented by what tasted like lavender/lilac flowers. Slick mouth feel without an overt alcohol aroma or flavor.
