gws57 (995), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Apr 26, 2008 Had this one draught at the brewpub in Michigan City, Indiana. Cloudy, dark brown pour with a nice foamy light brown head, a very faint nose of strawberry and fruit, caramel, maple sugar, peat; earthy. Not bad, actually, very strong finish. Among the best scotch ales I’ve had but that’s not saying much.
mdm46410 (590), Griffith, Indiana, USA Sep 22, 2008 On tap at Shoreline Brewery and served in a 10.5oz glass. This beer poured a dark, muddy copper with a one-finger thick head of lasting beige foam. Excellent lacing. The aroma consisted of toasted caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of dark fruit. The flavor was also strong on the caramel and brown sugar, but also had a light element of smoke, and some warming alcohol. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and had light carbonation. Decent. Cornfield (4343), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 20, 2008 On tap at the brewpub: This poured a very dark brown body with a smallish eggshell head. The aroma was of darkly sweet roasted malts. The flavor added molasses and dark berries to the mix along with a hit of alcohol. Not a bad sipper. Tmoney99 (3642), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 2, 2008 Draft at brewpub at 48F. Poured dark brown color with an moderate rocky off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Good roasted sweet malty aroma. Medium body with sticky texture. Medium sweet complex malty flavor with a dark fruity sweet finish of average duration. Very enjoyable brew RAYBOY01 (1630), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 4, 2008 Dark roasty malts, but infused with an unusual sweet fruitiness...a bit odd, but pretty drinkable. The nose is mostly roasted malts and whiff of alcohol. The flavors are dark roasted malts, dark fruits, alcohol and sweet caramel and molasses. A tad thin-bodied for the style. sneagrams3 (1453), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 15, 2008 Tasted 4/27/08. Filtered with a dark ruby hue. Trace head. Aromas of anise, soy sauce and blueberries. Rather full bodied with smokey malts and a toasty note. Fudge and vanilla. Honey and oaky. Nice yeast character. Tasty.
