Aroma of sweet rich dark caramel and chocolate malt with nice complex oaky bourbon and vanilla. Body starts very thick, sticky and sweet with nice dark chocolate and bourbon complexity. Very smooth and balanced with good roasty dark chocolate flavor throughout. An enjoyable barrel-aged imperial stout. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA

Basically opaque with a fading frothy head and oily legs. The aroma has heavy roasted malts, charred, leathery, and pipe tobacco vapours. The is also some chocolate, vanilla, oak, walnut, prune and juniper berry esters found inside. The taste starts chocolaty and toasty with a big bourbon initial attack. Lots of vanilla, oak and moderate alcohol noted. Tones of earthy cigar tobacco, dark fruit and molasses round it into shape. The mouth feel is oily and soft with a moderate warming trend upon the finish. Well done and actually worth the $20 I paid for it, good job Sam. Ughsmash (4046), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2009 Thanks to Mike for opening the 2007 bottle (and for sending me home with one!!). Poured deep, black, and foreboding, with not too much head sticking around. The aroma picked up rich chocolate and black patent maltage accented by sweet vanilla and rather bright bourbon.. became stronger as it warmed up and left a boozed-up, desserty impression on the back of the nose. The flavor opened with thick black patent and lesser coffee maltage with chocolate and more coffee emerging toward the back.. vanilla, toasted oak, and hot bourbonny alcohol over the top.. long, warm, memorable finish. Heavy and thick on the palate with rich malts and lots of sharper barrel impression.. syrupy on the back.. I vividly remember drinking this one. Rciesla (3719), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Chewy chocolate with a light wooden and bourbon warming. Some lighter oak and vanilla amongst a moderate coffee base. Nice. Dickinsonbeer (3494), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 1, 2009 750 ml bottle shared by Pantanap. Thanks Kan! Pours a very deep oily black with a thinning head. Aroma is oily, with lots of licorice, toffee, burnt molasses, some harsh roast, mode to light chocolate, medium oak toast, slight vanilla, and tons of alcohol- bourbon but mostly on the single malt whiskey side- very sharp. Flavor is licorice, bourbon, and alcohol burn, medium body, charred oak, burnt notes, earth, and ropiness with a light roasted burnt malt finish. Body is a bit weak due to a high alcohol presence and lower residual sugars. A bit messy and not rounded out. daknole (2974), Plantation, Florida, USA

Tons of bourbon hit you but not in a hot or overpowering way. It mixes with chocolate, toffee, oak, molasses, prunes and raisins to make your mouth water. And the flavor? Tastes like a decadent piece of chocolate with a bourbon/toffee sauce inside. Just amazing. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

Pours a nice looking dark void with dark brown edges with thin tan head and a bit of stain on the side of the drinking vessel. The aroma hits first with dark chocolate and then some malt roastiness before booze and oak fill in behind. The taste is dark chocolate, malt roastiness, booze, a bit of oak and solid bourbon. This is pretty darn smooth and tasty. Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Bottle: The aroma consists of roastiness, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, and light bourbon. It pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a small beige head that quickly fades to small ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor with lots of chocolate and caramel. The finish has moderate vanilla, maple syrup, bourbon, and faint roasted coffee. The alcohol is very well hidden. Full bodied with a soft, creamy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel.
