Opaque and midnight brown in color with wispy sawdust for the head. Aroma is worth a thousand words. Here’s 14: Bourbon, truffles, dark milk chocolate, sweet cream molasses, caramel, balance, wholesome, wonderful, alluring, cola. Flavor confirms the wonderful aromatic suspicions, coming in with an impeccable balance of bourbon barrel and imperial stout. This one puts on a clinic for barrel aged stouts. Bourbon lies seductively underneath a dark chocolate and caramel coating unto honey grahams, and then it’s sprung upon the palate in all its glory. Full bodied semblance elicits wholesome, natural cocoa powder along with talc laden dark chocolate, diffusing strongly into bourbon-laden chocolates. No anecdotal line could do the bourbon laden finish justice, but it suffices to say that this is one of the best of GTMW 2007 let alone any barrel aged imperial stout.

WOW. Godofthunder with a gem indeed! This was amazing. Black pour. No real head. Tons of bourbon hit you but not in a hot or overpowering way. It mixes with chocolate, toffee, oak, molasses, prunes and raisins to make your mouth water. And the flavor? Tastes like a decadent piece of chocolate with a bourbon/toffee sauce inside. Just amazing.

Bottle: The aroma consists of roastiness, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, and light bourbon. It pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a small beige head that quickly fades to small ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor with lots of chocolate and caramel. The finish has moderate vanilla, maple syrup, bourbon, and faint roasted coffee. The alcohol is very well hidden. Full bodied with a soft, creamy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel.

2007. The star beer of the night in a tasting session that included many top notch beers. Easy on the wood, light on the bourbon, lots of dark roast, coffee, chocolate and dark caramels, light molasses. Heavy feel with no fine, palate-damaging particulate mess.

On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Pours an opaque black with a thin wispy-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of sweet rich dark caramel and chocolate malt with nice complex oaky bourbon and vanilla. Body starts very thick, sticky and sweet with nice dark chocolate and bourbon complexity. Very smooth and balanced with good roasty dark chocolate flavor throughout. An enjoyable barrel-aged imperial stout.

Bottle and shared with Jeff and Kevin:

Basically opaque with a fading frothy head and oily legs. The aroma has heavy roasted malts, charred, leathery, and pipe tobacco vapours. The is also some chocolate, vanilla, oak, walnut, prune and juniper berry esters found inside. The taste starts chocolaty and toasty with a big bourbon initial attack. Lots of vanilla, oak and moderate alcohol noted. Tones of earthy cigar tobacco, dark fruit and molasses round it into shape. The mouth feel is oily and soft with a moderate warming trend upon the finish. Well done and actually worth the $20 I paid for it, good job Sam.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Todd. Pours a near pitch black cola with a tiny brown overhead appearance. Aroma of bourbon, malt, chocolate and soy. Taste is bourbony with hints of malt, chocolate and a touch of soy.
