Aroma is of pine, caramel, slight hops, bourbon, oak, and malt. Taste is of very muted, but not dusty or old tasting hops. Lots of caramel, pine, and malt in the flavor. Strong notes of bourbon and vanilla underneath it all. Lingering taste of sweet oak and caramel. Has a medium sticky mouthfeel. Alcohol presence is strong, but not overpowering. As it warms, more vanilla and oak comes through. A damn good beer. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2009 clear orange/copper, tiny bubbles for a head, some lace. nose of bourbon, followed by caramel, and a hint of hops. the flavor has bourbaon. vanilla, creamy caramel, and muted hops, probably mellowed by the barrel aging. medium bodied, creamy mouth feel, belated bitter finish, which sneaks up on you. it takes a while before you detect any bitter hops, but they do finally come through. the bourbon and the caramel/vanilla offset each other nicely. i can drink more than one of these, but what are the odds that i will find another bottle? bottle provided by flossmoor/rock bottom mug clubber george. thanks george. Verrry slippery smooth palate, along with a really surprisingly resiliant aged-hop bite (with all the rough edges smoothed over) and a nice subtle bourbon undertone throughout...along with vanilla and oak. Very luxurious brew which I wouldn’t mind repeating. Cornfield (4935), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 21, 2009 Thanks to George, a fellow Flossmoor Station Mug Clubber, for bringing this to last night’s tapping. The idea of aging an IPA gives this hop-head the willies, but this brew amazing retained much of its hoppy qualities. It poured a clear, deep golden body and didn’t raise much of a head. The aroma began with Bourbon followed by oak, vanilla, a malty sweetness, and a touch of the citrusy hops. Smooth. It tasted of sweet malts, booze, vanilla, wood, and a fairly sharp citusy bitterness. The finish was sweet and boozey with a moderate bitterness. Nice. This seems to necessitate a visit to the brewery in the near future. BBB63 (4229), La Porte, Indiana, USA

Deep golden hue with small head and minimal lace. The aroma has notes of vanilla, oak, resiny and grassy hops, pepper esters, and a hint of bubblegum. The taste is bitter and fruity at first with a light bourbon component of vanilla and oak, moderately boozy with a woody dry aftertaste. The mouth feel is lively and sharp. Pretty solid, well played but I would not age this any longer than necessary. Pailhead (2587), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Bottle: The aroma has a nice vanilla character along with bourbon and a hint of citrus hops. It pours a transparent amber with a small soapy white head. The flavor starts light-moderately citrusy with equal parts vanilla and light caramel. The finish mildy citrus hoppy and light bourbon. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a soft mouthfeel.
