Draught sample at the brewpub, June 19 2007. Pale, fairly clear yellow-gold with no real head; no head and precious little haze, not good in this style....faint spicy aroma, a fair amount of wheat malt, ginger and coriander, nothing bad here but just not strong enough....the body by contrast is quite sweet, very light on the spices, quite yeasty in the middle....dries out quite a bit at the finish; strong carbonation....thoroughly unexceptional.

On tap at the brewpub. In no way did this beer resemble a wit. I’d say more of a Belgian Pale Ale or abbey style. Golden hued with a soapy white head. The aroma had lots of bubble gum and peppery notes. Same with the flavor. Lots of yeast character. Medium body with pleasant carbonation. I thought it was a nice beer, but I’m a bit confused by the wit lable.

Draught at the brewery. Looks like crap. Looks like a loaf of bread dissolved in a glass of milk. It’s that cloudy. It’s even gritty between my teeth... dude, unfiltered is one thing, but this is like drinking the yeast slurry. Smells of CO2 from the fermentor, smells heavily of homebrew yeast. Tastes weird, muddy and creamy, gritty soggy bread, some oatmeal, cream of wheat cereal and bananas. Nasty.

This is a nice departure from the hoppy, super-flavored beers from Shoreline. It’s a decent whit, not the best I’ve had, but Sammy is finally making a beer you can quaff. 7/16/08 - At the brewery. Not sure what’s going on with this year’s wit, but there’s some kind of funkiness going on. A sour flavor covers the roof of my mouth and the back of my throat. The guy next to me said the same thing. Can’t quite put our fingers on it.

Draft at the brew pub. Clear gold color with thin white head that laced the glass. Light grainy aroma with a whiff of clove. Flavor was malty cereal grain accented by orange zest. A nice try, but not a great wit.

Draft sample at brewery. Clear amber color with an average fizzy white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate banana sour citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Medium sweet citrus flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Drinkable refreshing beer.

Tap at brewery: Golden hue with little head and some lace. The aroma has notes of coriander, orange zest, biscuity malt, and dusty yeast esters. The taste is citric and shaprp with a moderate spice and floral hop finish. Aggressive carbonation leads to a refreshing brew. An okay version of the style.
