Slightly sweet, with definite wood barrel notes, very woody. Pretty good stuff, glad I had the chance to taste this. GAManiac (1173), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Pours a very hazy amber that shows bright orange when held up to light. The head is large and off-white and recedes to a swirl and ring fairly quickly.
The aroma is big and complex with the dry-hopping evident up front, though probably more subdued than when fresh. There is lots of sweet caramel malt in the middle with a bourbon presence that opens up even more as it warms.
The taste didnt quite live up to the aroma for me. There is a quick resin kick up front but gives way to a big sugary sweetness that dominates throughout along with the bourbon which leaves an alcohol burn in the finish. There are barrel characteristics in the background and the dry-hopping is really subtle.
The mouthfeel is sticky with hop oils and has a decent carbonation with lots of bourbon in the finish.
Was really intrigued by this one as its very original and Ive never tasted anything like it. That said, the flavors didnt quite meld together and I bet this one was better when fresh. TURDFERGUSON (1603), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA

Nose was fairly hoppy with a distinct alchol character but I did not find the alcohol to be over the top. Flavor was equally hoppy, rich, and slightly boozy. durhambeer (1215), Durham, USA

Hazy deep orange pour with smallish head. Big oaky/bourbony aroma that seemed to be fighting with the hops... I found it to be an enjoyable if odd fight. Pretty boozy overall, and seems like more of a novelty than anything else. Worth trying though. JCB (1768), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Like the other Shorts DIPAs I’ve had, the nose on this one is a real sucker-punch: floral, aromatic as hell, sweet and well-hopped, but with a boozy pungency that emerges quickly as the dominant trait. That’s a fair summation of the beer, I’d say. It’s full bodied, not too creamy, but substantial enough. But there’s just an aggressive alky burn that isn’t very subtle at all - in fact you can’t even detect much actual bourbon as much as you just get walloped by booze. emacgee (1888), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The nose is very bourbony, lightly oaky, warm alcohol, some dry hop character, sweet. The flavor was sharp and hot bourbon, a spicy oakyness, some bitterness. Definitely a bourbon predominant brew. Interesting to try but I definitely wouldn’t have wasted my time dry hopping it for 9 months. kmweaver (2465), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Oct 1, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a bright, mostly clear orange color; off-white head with patchy lacing. Medicinal oranges, dried orange peel, and light, sweet bourbon notes in the aroma; very relaxed bourbon character in the nose; muted hops; kind of sticky. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy, sticky, and astringent bourbon notes, rough hops, and sticky sweet maltiness at the core; not good, very sticky and messy, and hard to drink much of this; aged, misshapen barrel-aged IIPA. Limited presentation of the barrel, with an old IIPA forming the basis of things. Lengthy, sticky sweet finish: candy sugar, old hop bitterness, and sweet sticky maltiness; on the dry side at the far end. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

Up front there’s some vibrant sweetness and juiciness, but it quickly turns to maple coated dogfood and ammonia. Hugely sharp and putrid, heavily astringent. Difficult to like. Finishes like alcoholized dogfood.
