Tasted 10/29/09. 750ml bottle. #254/780. Mildly hazy with a brown amber hue. Webbed off-white head. Aromas of hops and berries, with a touch melon and citrus. Bright nose! Rather full bodied with a nice bitterness. Lotta nice hop flavors. Dry bitter finish. Mildly yeasty and doughy; just enough to offset the bitter. Takes the edge off. Well done.

courtesy of the Shorts tasting night group. early ’07 bottle. bottle#575 pours golden-reddish haze with beige head. Aroma is mainly of citrus hops, a big hoppy nose that is surprisingly strong for an ’07 bottle. Flavor, lots of citrus, grapefruit and strong hoppy presence as well as a light bitter finish. Malt profile is there with hints of caramel but remains overshadowed by a ton of hops. Not bad, but my least favorite beer of this 13 beer serie.

12/10/2008: Short’s Aorta Red has adeep amber-honey color with a frothy beige-coloed head that created wavy lacing patterns on the glass. I like the grapefruit and pine hoppy aroma and am actually glad that the hops overpowers the malt a bit. The beer has a chewy toffee maltiness and a moderate pine/resin bitterness. It is medium-bodied, smooth, and clings to the tongue. Overall this is a very good beer.

750 mL capped bottle shared by alexsdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #40 for this beer.

750ml bottle 524/798 7/15/09 (Shorts Brewery)-Pours a hazy dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, and sweetness. Taste of the same with more malt thrown in. This medium to full bodied brew is nicely balanced and tasty.

Bottled. Dark amber coloured. Clar. Dense beige head. Sweetness, spice, fruits, caramel and herbs in the aroma. Flavour of spice, herbs and light flowers. Light pine is notable. Medium bodied. Dry. Nice bitter sweetness in the end. Smooth and balanced.

Big thanks to rlcnmeyer for this rarity, bottle #546, poured into a tulip. There is plenty of carbonation on this one and it pours a deep copper with a huge creamy off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves tons of lacing. The aroma is that of a nice big red ale. It’s got lots of caramel sweetness but with a toasted bread character overall. There are vestiges of hops in the nose, with a very faint citrus hop presence. It’s pretty much all malts in the nose at this point. The taste is sweet up front with lots of caramel malts and even some dark fruits and sugar. The finish really brings out the toasted bready malts and the finish is subsequently dry and ever so slightly bitter. Again, the malts are the major player here. The mouthfeel is highly carbonation and on the heavier side of medium bodied. The slight bitterness, even after a couple years, suggests there was a solid hop profile on this one initially. Another winner from Shorts with this one. It’s definitely one of the more straight forward imperial series beers, and, while not as creative as some of the others, it’s very drinkable and a solid execution of an amped-up amber.

Hazy reddish colour with an off white head. hoppy, piney and fruity aroma with a light caramel sweetness. Hoppy fruity, light piney flavor with a vague grassy note.

Thanks to GodofThunder. Very caramelly color, with a mega hop and evergreen flavor. Caramel comes back in the taste. Very tastey hoppy flavor. DIG IT
