Commercial Description:
Classic wheat beer brewed by Americans in America using a German wheat yeast. 50% of the grain used is malted wheat designating it as a true “wheat” beer. This ale is also known as Hefeweizen. It’s golden in color and light and clean with esters of banana and clove compliments of its Bavarian DNA.

Enjoyed this brew from Shorts on a 8/1/09 on a recent camping trip for a friends birthday. Poured this beer from a growler in a a plastic pint glass (we were camping). The beer pour a cloudy orangish yellow with a good 3 fingers of head that leaves a beautiful lacing around the glass as it diminishes. I did not notice any yeast floating in my glass, but the I would imagine its unfiltered. The beer smells of banana, cloves, sweet wheat and chamomile. The flavor is very refreshing and perfect for a day at the beach, with flavors of citrus, banana, cloves and sweet malted wheat. This beer has a light mouthfeel without a ton of complexity. I would imagine that Shorts made this beer for exactly what it says in the name...a day at the beach. This is definetly a Hefe I could enjoy all day as it leaves a great after taste and is light enought, yeah delicious enough to never get bored of....another excellant brew from the good people at Shorts in Bellaire, MI

From a 1/4 barrel while camping! Clear gold colored pour with a small, loose, white head. Lots of banana aroma with a little spice and not much else. The flavor is the same. Body is medium-thin with a moderate amount of carbonation. It’s kind of a cloying, artificial, and one-dimensional beer but in a good way, if that makes sense. It’s a really nice summer session beer.

Draft at the brewpub: Clear yellow pour with a light white head that fades. Carbonation dances from the bottom of the glass. Classic hefe nose of prickly banana and clove. Lots of clove and esthery bananas fill the mouth with first sip. Beyond the nice yeast, the body becomes a bit thin for the style, lacking any real contribution from the wheat. This is kind of a beginnner’s hefe that is easy to drink and flavorful enough. It just lacks that extra malty depth that take this style to the next level for me. Comes off thin compared to the rest of the Short’s roster that we tried.

Draft @ Shorts. Pours a slightly hazy, bright golden color; white head with good retention and creamy, fine-bubbled lacing; very nice pour. Solid amounts of bananas, cloves, and caramelized sugar in the aroma; some spiciness; nicely integrated hefeweizen nose. Medium mouthfeel: light carbonation with a creamy texture; lots of bananas, soft cloves, and light peppery spiciness upfront; light hefeweizen, but the edges of this are filled out and everything is highly drinkable and very tasty; a very creamy, enjoyable hefeweizen overall. Nice beer. Medium finish: dry cloves, some peppery notes, and bananas; very nicely dry and well-integrated rendition.
