| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 7, 2009 Poured a very nice dark brown with a light brown, creamy head. The color is so dark it almost appears murky but upon closer inspection is actually sparkling clear. The Belgian lace is well formed and attractive. Rich malty notes with hints of toasted cereal, chocolate and nuts. Smoky? Restrained, yet balanced hops. Layered flavors. Lighter body than the color suggests. Highly refreshing. Rather moreish. tmoreau (597), Lombard, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2009 12 oz. bottle share. Poured a mahogany brown with an off white, bubbly foam head and clingy streaks of lacing. The aroma was some roastiness, chocolate, caramel malt and a wisp of smoke. The flavor was a lighter version of the nose high lighting the caramel and malt sweetness. The body was a little thin, but all in all a quaffable brew. Pailhead (2603), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2009 Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, caramel, roastiness, and a hint of black licorice. It pours a hazy orangish-brown with a small off-white head that diminishes to a thin film somewhat quickly. The flavor starts with caramel and chocolate and a hint of fruity sweetness in the background. It finishes with a light-moderate roasted nuttiness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 2, 2009 This is my first brew from Shorts. I shared a bottle of this with BeerBaron617 today and generally liked it a lot. It had everything that I like about a stout, in a lighter form. It had a nice transparent brown color with a tanish head. It smelled like chocolate which was great. It had the taste of chocolate with a bit of bite, and maybe even a little licorice in there. I will have to try some more by this brewery, and will certainly be having this again! JCB (1786), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 26, 2009 12oz bottle from my buddy Steve - thanks, man! Nice dark brown pour with a slight yeastiness in the body and some moderate carbonation. Soft toffee and toasted malts in the nose, with a bit more sharpness than one usually gets from the style. Pleasant body, easily quaffable, and the flavor has far more nuance than you often get. Nice hopping certainly helps, and it’s a decent brown overall. BeerBunker (616), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 23, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours mahogany with a frothy beige head. Aroma is of malt, caramel, nuts, brown sugar, bread, and roast. Taste is of very heavy caramel malt. Lots of roast and brown sugar as well. Has a very tasty roastiness with a nice nutty flavor underneath it. Mouthfeel is very malty and creamy. I didn’t find the body as thin as some others have, though it is light. Lingering nut and brown sugar taste. Very easy to drink. As it warms, a lot more chocolate comes through.
