Commercial Description:
The hub of the village
Exactly what it says, “brown beer.” This is beer fermented from wort extracted from the hearty pale ale malt, toasted specialties, chocolate and munich selections resulting in a toasted brown color. Very light hop additions from the Cascade variety allows the sweet malty and caramel notes to shine through for duration of its time on your palette.

Dark rusty brown pour with a 1 finger off-white head. There’s a rich caramel aroma with notes of dates, brown sugar, almond, orange and evergreen. Dark fruit and caramel flavor with some slight licorice, toasted nuts, and just enough bitterness on the finish to counterbalance the richness of the malt. Creamy medium body with a fair amount of carbonation. This is an excellent session beer and would go well with a nice roast beef and sharp cheddar sandwich.

Bottle from Champanes, pours dark (which is a ruby against a light) with less than medium efferevescence, gave a variable bubble off-white head that looked creamy, there is a fine covering of sediment in the bottle, leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass, aroma of toasted malt and faint nut, little roasted malt in the background, faint chocolate, malt sweetness with some caramel fragrances, flavor of toasted and light roasted malt, chocolate in the background, nice Brown Ale.

Bottle, courtesy northernbrews. Pours a thin looking, brassy brown color with a small, foamy, cream colored head. Micro-spot lacing marks the glass. The aroma is mildly nutty, with caramel, cocoa, and not much else. Flavors follow suit, again showing mostly caramel and cocoa, with faint hints of coffee roast. Medium-light bodied and balanced on the tongue. This is well made, but there’s just not much to it. Hey, if Shorts has to sell stuff like this to finance all those funky experiments that they do, I’m all for it. Decent brown ale.

enjoyed on draft before, and rating from 12 oz bottle. pours out a deep amber mahogany, with a light beige head of wispy foam and soapy bubbles where the liquid touches the glass. nutty woody aroma, toasted malts and caramel all apparent, with some light green NW american hops. smooth and mild with lots of balance and a tinge of astringency that’s more acidic than alcoholic - an enjoyable beer that’s worth a shot, and very good for a brown ale.

Bottle from Hoppymeal, thanks man! A- Poured into a standard Pint glass this beer appeared dark brown with an amber hue. The head dissipated quickly and there was minimal lacing. S- I got a nice malt and roast consistency from the smell. T- This is not my favorite style of beer but if I had to choose one this would be it. It has subtle hop characteristics that seem to balance out the malt background in the beer. I found it to be a nice mix of sweet and bitter. This is a nice brown ale. M - The mouth feel of this beer is a little over carbonated and much like the last poster; if the mouth feel was less carbonated it would kill the drinkability of the beer. D - I would not be able to drink a ton of these in a sitting as it is not my favorite style. However, for those that do enjoy a good brown ale I am sure that it would be an instant classic.

Smells like caramel. Looks like caramel. Tastes like caramel with a lot of water. Maybe watered down tea. meh.
