I belive this was brought to DLD by one of the nefarious Northside Gang. Most likely pantanap, who refuses to be normal in any sense of the word. Thanks, Kan.
But I had a hard time with this one. To me, the name says it all. It looks like a Schwarzbier, but it smells of black licorice. Period. There’s an element of a rye-like peppery spiciness to the flavor, but it’s overshadowed, NAY!, overwhelmed by the strong licorice taste. It took me quite a while at the The LoSBD table eating spicy munchies to clear my delicate palate before I could continue with my beer tastings. Given all that, the sun had just ducked behind some clouds (again!) and the wind was picking up (once more!), so I appreciated the sturdy ABV.

Oct 11, 2008 Aroma of liquorice, vanilla and burned mat. Black beer with a tone of red. Flavor of coffee, chocolate and an aftertaste of liquorice.

The aroma is dominated by liquorice with notes of chocolate and vanilla.
The flavour is dominated by liquorice and vanilla with roasted notes and notes of chocolate.
