Bottle shared at Cbus tasting 11. Poured a dark brown black color. Aroma was vanilla malts and bourbon. Taste was a bit wild for me. A bit of everything. Vanilla, malts, chocolate, lots of bourbon, and even some sort of tartiness. A fruit, cherries, maybe?

Poured a clear deep red-brown color with an off-white head. Bourbon aroma is moderate and balanced with some vanilla and a light roast. Well blended. The flavor is of roasted malt and vanilla. Light-medium bodied.

bottle from mibirder. This is a great example of the depth and complexity that bourbon barrel aging can add to a beer. Bourbon really complements this brew. Very good, very smooth, and very drinkable.

Bomber. Nearly perfect black body was topped with a khaki head. The aroma was fairly strong bourbon with the oak and some vanilla. There is also a leathery note. The little bit of cola is behind that character. The taste is like bourbon and Coke more than anything else. Once you get past that mixed drink character, you get a little bit of peanuts and chocolate. But again, bourbon and Coke dominate, something I do not recall tasting in a beer. This may please those that love the sweet Schwarzbiers, but I prefer the ones that have mroe roasted character. Huge disappointment as I normally love Shorts.

From a 22oz Bottle. Courtesy of CharlesDarwin. Mostly transparent, dark rootbeer brown colored pour with a finger of fizzy, light tan head. Aromas of bourbon are clearly present, but not overpowering, bringing forth notes of caramel, rye seed, vanilla and a warming booziness. An underlying chocolate maltiness lies beneath, but its not really distinguishable as a schwarzbier. Medium bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a relatively thin, light texture. Flavors of light chocolate and caramel malt up front on the palate with a hint of roast. The bourbon flavors develop mid-palate, and have a distinct, rye-like character hidden in there with the oaky vanilla. Finishes with a lager-like cleanness and quickness before shades of bourbon booziness makes it’s way back to linger in my breath. Enjoyable beer overall, especially in the relatively high drinkability with bourbon complexity. Unfortunately, the distinguishing schwartzbier qualities are hidden behind the bourbon, so the lack of bigger malt flavors is apparent and missed, keeping the flavors from meshing just right. Thanks for the special treat, Tom!

Bottle shared by Crosling. Poured a deep brown color with some auburn highlights and a moderate beige head that faded to a ring. Aroma consists of smoky bourbon and brown sugar glazed ham. Sweet, lightly fruity entry leads into a moderately smoky malt profile end fairly bland. Thin, not much body a all. A pretty big let down.

Bottle. Deep brown in color with a little off white head. Malty fruity vanilla and chocolatety aroma. Molasses smokey notes. Sweet chocolatety roasty flavor. Vanilla notes. Sweet tasting. Full bodied. Very drinkable. Great.
