It’s pitch black with a nougat, creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, fresh vegetables and herbs (not like boiled cabbage) and I suppose it’s the carob. The flavour has sweetness and a peppery/chilli-like bite, notes of roasted malt, chocolate, licorice and carob.

750ml from mibirder - thanks, Sean!! Lovely dark pour with a modest cafe au lait head and pretty impressive carbonation for the style. Smooth, inviting nose promises exactly the advertised main ingredient and immediately I want to make unfair comparisons with Stone 12. I won’t but, oops, I just did. Anyways, the body is not quite as thick as I would have liked but it’s substantial nonetheless. Crisp carb gives it a pleasant drinkability, but it’s still worth savoring the very fine roasted and choc malts, and of course the scrumptious carob. Give me some of those carob-coated peanuts, yo. Anyways, this one is fairly "traditional" for Joe Short, but it’s also typically superb.

Shorts smagning med klubben. Sort, næsten intet skum. Kaffe, bitter mørk chokolade, ristet, hænger godt i tungen og her en tyk mundfylde.

Shorts tasting with The Club +a few. Pours black with an off-white head. Smells of toasted bread. Sweet with aromas of chocolate and coffee. Also toasted malts. Hints of sour malts. Medium body. Long toasted finish finish with hints of warming alcohol.

Big bottle purchased at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Cool logo. Dark, rusty brown body under a patch surface. Roasted malt to the nose. Taste of chocolate malts on a bitter liquorice backbone. Long lived ending with noticeable alcohol. Full bodied, but a bit unvaried (shared with Skinnyviking, Valby 10.09.2008)
