This one is massive and very complex. It pours a nice black body with a fine brown head. The nose is full of coffee, and roasted and burned malts - very round and ballanced. I taste caramel malts, chocolate, christmas nuts, dry figs with a nice bitterness. The palate is full-bodied and round.

Beerlando you kick ass for sharing this. I have been wanting to try this forever! Pours a black color. Aroma is full of carob. And I am a product of 2 major hippies so we ate a lot of carob in my house. Just smelling it brought me back to a healthfood store we used to shop in. The flavor is full of carob, molasses, roasted malt and some strong coffee. I really, REALLY enjoyed this one!

750ml bottle acquired in trade with hoppymeal. Poured a dark black color with brown edges, and a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roastiness, earhty, and coffee. Tastes of chocolate/cocoa, coffee, roastiness, lighter dark fruits, and licorice.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body, though with only a scant, off-white head. Smell: Roasty, grainy aroma smelling fairly chocolatey and a bit like fresh-brewed coffee. Taste: Roast and an intensely dark chocolate-esque flavor with a subtle sweetness. Tastes of burnt marshmallows and cookie crumbs. Hint of bitterish tree bark. Fairly roasty throughout, particularly on the otherwise creamy finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Rather enjoyable! It’s good to see carob finally making a much-needed comeback. One of the tasties carob-based beers that have ever been.

For my #1000 rating I have chosen a beer that both means a lot to me because of my admiration of Joe Short starting up such an amazing brewery while still being a young brewer and as a beer that I was able to drink over my "mini-moon" as a celebration of me and wife’s new life together. 750ml bottled 3/26/07 from the brewery. Opaque black with medium to large, creamy, burnt tan head. Aroma is dry roasted, bitter chocolate, cold coffee, some rich fruit notes. Flavor is chocolate pudding, slight roast, bitterness, medium-dry, nice. Medium to full and very creamy body. Overall a pretty outstanding brew, but roast comes off as being a slight bit too bitter with it being as dry as it is. Very nice and I think worthy of the celebration.

Pours a deep black with a smaller bubbly dark tan head. Aroma of dark bitter chocolate, coffee, light alcohol, earthy and light smoke. Flavor of dark chocolate, smoke, nuts, coffee, cocoa and some fruity notes. Body was a bit thin but the flavor was right on.

Opaque black color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, anise, smoke, roasted malts, coffee, some vanilla and caramel. Taste of anise, chocolate, roasted malts, nuts, and vanilla, with a dry, roasty finish.
