Styles (1653), Taylor, Michigan, USA May 17, 2008 Courtesy of MikeMac. Hazy/cloudy orange, huge white head, great lacing. Huge pine/spruce resin, literally smells like a fresh x-mas tree. Decent citrus character, not much for malt in aroma. Flavor again, huge pine/spruce, tastes like there are needles in the glass. Needles add a certain freshness character that’s hard to describe. Very resinous and sticky. As it warms caramel comes through a bit, helps to balance. Sort of 1 dimensional, but I dig it.

Cloudy golden coloured with a huge off white head.
Fruity aroma of hops, pine needles, spruce and candies.
Fruity and perfumed flavour of hops, spruce and pine needles with notes of candies.
Hoppy finish. Guf guf! sunevdj (1482), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Oct 1, 2008 Shorts tasting with The Club +a few. Pours a hazy golden with a white head. Smells of rose hybs and spruce. Extremely bitter but very well balanced by a strong sugary sweetness. Strong hoppy aromas. Also aromas of eldeberry flowers, spruce and some wood and resin. Low carbonation. Medium body. Bitter finish with a hint of warming alcohol. Best of the Shorts tasting. Theis (2212), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 30, 2008 Bottle at home. Clear golden - white head. Sweetness, high bitterness, pine forrest, resin, light malty body, pilsner malty, nice hoppy. Lovely clean and perfect. ChristianScheffel (2216), Odense, Denmark Sep 22, 2008 Dark golden with a lasting white head. Aroma is interesting enough, bordering oddness: Forest shrubbery, spruce, medicine and peppermint. Flavour is bitter in an unpleasant way, and the spruce tends to turn into turpentine.
Hoppy beer with spruce? Interesting. A ton of spruce? No subtleties left.
