Lots of bitterness. More molasses notes on the palate, with a touch of cheap coffee and nuts. Would not have guessed it was an impy let alone 12.5%. hopscotch (5495), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 5, 2009 Growler... Pours very dark and sits mostly black in my glass with a small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is of coffee and chocolate – mocha. Full-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel and laid back carbonation. Sweet chocolate malt and molasses flanks bittersweet black malt and tannic hops to provide good balance. Finishes burnt, acrid and a touch tangy. Surprised to see this one clock in at 12.5%. Thanks to GodOfThunder for providing the growler! Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2008 Growler. Black with just a bit of ruby around the edges. Aroma and flavor are more bitter coffee then roast. Really bitter espresso. Decent but not overwhelming. Really hoppy. daknole (2972), Plantation, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2009 Growler from lampeno420, thanks! This was my first growler ever received in a trade. Pours a black color with a light tan head. I get coffee, roasted malt, anise, chocolate and some smoke. Flavor is quite roasty with nice notes of bitter chocolate and a lot of coffee. Also some faint notes of dark, dark berries. I really enjoyed this, all three monster pours of it! Beershine (2710), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Growler shared by GodofThunder. Muddled brown-black color with some splotchy lacing but little head. Sweet aroma, a bit syrupy. Coffee with cake. Soft, low carbonation. Slippery mouthfeel. Solid flavors if not a bit syrupy. Probably didn’t travel well, I’ll have to hit up the brewpub. Beerlando (2340), Orlando, Florida, USA

Pours an extremely dark mahogany color with a lightly translucent, chestnut edge. A small, mocha colored head leave spotty lacing behind. Scents of bittersweet chocolate are first to greet the nose, followed by scorched caramel, lactose, earthy hops and dark fruits. Flavors follow suit, quite roasty up front with nice bittersweet chocolate and dark caramel notes. Medium-full on body and silky smooth. This is a nice enough brew, but it is simple and lacking complexity. I guess it is just a bit of a letdown after the stellar Über Goober Stout. sebletitje (1925), Tampa, Florida, USA

Partial growler in a grolsh bottle.
Pours black with flat head.
Aroma of strong chocolate malts.
Taste of roasted malts with caramel and light charcoal mouthfeel with notes of smoke, light bitter finish..
Really could not tell this was a 12.5% beer.
Wish we had a lot more to share.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 5, 2009 Growler from northernbrews, thank you much! Deep brown with a 1/2 finger creamy tan head, fading to a thick ring and thin film. Big milk chocolate and oatmeal up front, as well as roasted malts and a bit of salted nuts. After nosing it a bit some anise shows up. Flavor is a bit more burnt than the aroma led on, and I pick up on some dark berries. Finishes semi-dry with bitterness peaking around a 3-4. The body is thinner than what I’d expect from a 12.5% impy, but maybe the recipe’s changed since the bottled version. Minimal carbonation, I’d suppose from being growlered. The flavor seems to be missing something, as if it doesn’t seem big enough to be an impy stout.
