Nice aroma, the citrus peel and peppercorn are clearly evident and meld well with the tamer traditional wheat base. The taste is much the same, with a basic wheat base livened up by a peppery and floral background. Interesting and well-done. GodOfThunder (866), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2009 Thanks to Northernbrews for the Short’s hookup. A ton of aroma for such a light brew. Peppercorns, lemons, wheat and everything nice. Flavor is more of the same. Nice and light, but still full flavored. I could drink this all day on a golf course in the hot sun. Great flavor, but still good for a hot Florida summer day. Beerlando (2325), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 14, 2009 Growler, courtesy northernbrews via GodOfThunder. Pours a cloudy golden orange color with a small, foamy, off-white head. Sudsy spots of lacing slowly drip back into the body. The nose is really nicely spiced, fragrant peppercorns and sharp citrus rind working with orange blossom honey to provide some spark to the underlying fresh wheat grain. Hints of banana work their way in as well. The flavor follows suit, slightly browned bananas and ultra-fresh wheat laying a light malt base, with the citrus peels, multi-colored peppercorns, and bright floral hops zesting things up nicely. Medium bodied and smooth, the mouthfeel is apropriately easy going for a hefe. Really nice summertime brew. I could drink this all day long by the poolside. Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2008 On tap at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Pulpy orange-brown body, thin creamy buff head. Potent potpourri-like nose with coriander and pepper notes. The coriander and especially peppercorns dominate the body, giving the beer a slight burn, strange and interesting. Bready wheat notes lurk beneath the sharp spices. Probably best enjoyed as a half-pint. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2008 On tap at Short’s. It was nice to see one of Short’s beers on draft that were a little more daring like their Imperial series. Pours a hazed pale yellow with a fading white head. The hops first remind me of the Hvedegoop. Sweet caramels, pine, lemons, oranges, and spice in the nose. Sweet malts with lemons in the flavor. Strong spice of cardamon and pepper. Finishes peppery and spicy. Interesting and pretty drinkable still. alexsdad06 (1081), Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Sample at MBGF summer ’08. Pours a hazy dirty golden color with a small white head. The aroma is citrus, peppercorn, yeast, and grass. The flavor is orange citrus, yeast, more peppercorn, and corriander. Light/med bodied and crisp. I think there is almost too much going on for me. I will always give Short’s stuff a try. timsilvia32 (446), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 6, 2008 Like a spicy pale ale. Pours hazy dark yellow. Hints of some of the spices used in a winter/christmas ale like ginger and nutmeg maybe and definetely the pepper. Very unique, not sure if it’s good or bad. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 19, 2008 Multiple samples @ WBE: This beer was badass. Pours like a dirty banana. Smells of citrus, and black spice. A very unique flavor, this tastes of citrus fruit, yeast, and fresh black peppercorns, with black pepper finishing on palate. I can see this beer being a perfect compliment to summer fare. Best wheat ale I have ever had, but be warned that you must be a black pepper lover to attempt to enjoy this. I literally was burping up straight pepper all afternoon. Unique and fantastic.
