kegoguinness (45), Dodge City, Washington DC, USA Sep 29, 2008 draft in Deetwah. Pours a lovely not-so-pale color. This one has a malt profile to match the hops. It has a brave malt chutzpah in an otherwise often less-than-inspired style of beer. Maybe it doesn’t match the style to perfection, but who gives a rat’s ass. This is a great beer I could drink by the truckload. kmweaver (2125), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Sep 17, 2008 Draft @ Ashley’s. Pours a hazy, orange-red color; off-white head with decent retention and lacing that coats the glass. Strong levels of mineral and spicy hop bitterness over a sweet earthy malt core in the aroma; touches of astringency, but solid overall. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of earthy, mineral, and (lightly) citrus bitterness upfront; very dense, prominent, bitter hop character; chewy earthy malts at the core, nicely restrained sweetness; solid, bitter, intense pale ale. Medium finish: earthy hops and malty sweetness, minerals, nicely dry; balanced ending. holdenn (1161), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 15, 2008 On tap at Short’s. Pours a hazed copper with an off white head. S weet caramelized and charred malts (that seem to be a house flavor) with a strong essence of pine. Sweet caramels and toffee flavors that are balanced with grapefruit and pine. The glacier hops bring an interesting fresh layer that’s piney and almost spearmint like. Finishes bitter, fresh and just delicious. Great pale ale. jeffwilliams11 (275), hooterville, Michigan, USA Aug 3, 2008 draft at hopcats shorts dinner. aroma and flavor somewhat hoppy, but also very popcorny (buttery and somewhat husky). pretty drinkable, but the weakest offering i have had from shorts. jcr (853), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jul 7, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. This is one of the better balanced APAs I have had — neither the hops nor the malts dominated, yet both were present and not subtle. Amber/orange and cloudy with a white head. The aroma is citrusy with grapefruit and orange peel. Hints of pine, grain and caramel. The flavor was moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Yet neither was forward and the finish was mildly bitter. Very clean. Medium body with a watery texture. Lively carbonation. Very nice and very easy to drink.
